I've heard descriptions of the human conscience, from the New Testament to Huckleberry Finn, and at the risk of overthinking, I'll add one more.
I went to a small town, well Tremonton, Utah, rodeo last night. The thing that is sticking with me is the announcer. Like our Conscience, his voice was almost always present. He introduced the rodeo, the flag, the singing of the National Anthem, which still makes me emotional, and--led the crown in an opening prayer. Significantly, he prayed to "Heavenly Father" but closed in the name of "our Lord," instead of "Jesus Christ," possibly to be more inclusive.
The announcer/conscience of the rodeo continued to announce the events, offer encouragement to the cowboys, and reminded the audience when to applauded. He spoke of respect for the animals, referred to them as athletes. He spoke of the "Rodeo Culture," the pride that the participants had in what they did, and how nobody got rich in the Rodeo "business."
Driving home I had a chance to think about it, and discuss it with my wife, who sweetly grinned and said, "You're overthinking this" which is typical of me.
So I'll stop thinking/writing and just put this out there.

the rodeo announcer in my brain is the Default Mode Network.

I'm an announcer of sorts, have had strangers walk up and say "I recognize your voice, are you...?" (YouTube class videos).
I'm trying to perfect the art of hypnotizing students in class... you are getting sleepy, very sleepy... dim lights, comfortable room temperature, then in my most comforting voice I'll slip in the little subliminal messages to break free from their religious and political groups, I mix them into diverse study groups to expose them to new cultures and beliefs. I wouldn't be a good professor if I didn't properly wash their minds of previous trapped ways of thinking.
Our semester starts tomorrow. Wish me luck

Is this "rodeo conscience" or "human conscience" the same as the sociological concept of: Collective Consciousness?
In your overthinking of the concept Mr. Blues, are you trying to say that you think the concept is "real," or not?

I've been to many rodeos in my life and have had relatives compete in them at just about every level--amateur to professional.
I've found that the announcers almost always sound the same and almost always say the same things. They all seem to have very comforting voices. Which might be a good thing when a 1,700 lb animal is trying to stomp you.

The thing that struck me is the announcer was speaking for a group- the rodeo culture. I'm not part of that culture. I wondered if any of the contestants or fans thought the announcer was full of BS.wtfluff wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 9:39 am Is this "rodeo conscience" or "human conscience" the same as the sociological concept of: Collective Consciousness?

I think we all are programed to think our reality is THE REAL reality. I admire people who can step back from themselves and think: what if, for example: Could Mormons understand what they did that pissed of the Missourians?
