Do they really think they can stop members from seeing it? Is it a shot across the bow to Mormonleaks, a kind of warning that they will face litigation if they keep doing what they are doing? Is it the Brethren trying to assert themselves? Or it is just their usual incompetent response to public challenges to their authority?
It sends a message that the church is willing to play hard ball with those posting the leaked documents and those taking and sharing the intellectual property.

Problem is, the church is about as exciting as the ballet, probably less exciting actually.
Um....ballet is more exciting than NASCAR or the NBA. :D

Can't imagine any organization wanting their enemies list becoming public, especially when it is embarrassing for a religious group to have such a list.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Here's my contribution. My only regret is that I should have inserted the word "PANTS!" instead of the thing about Whole Foods. But you know, it was done in a hurry, and we live and we learn.

The curious thing is the idea of "intellectual property". Isn't it "inspired property" wink, nudge.

You know, the more I think about this the more I realize this slide only needs one bubble: "Fails To Deliver"

I've been thinking the same type of thing.

It Just.

Doesn't.

Work.

The LDS Corporation is completely incapable of living up to any of it's grand and wonderful promises.

Another "funny" thing: The LDS Corporation's epistemology, and methodology actually promotes some of the things it views as "Confirmed Threats".

That was actually my point. Many may like the ballet, but not everyone. And although you may like the ballet, don't force me to like it, and then cry foul when I decide to leave and not attend the ballet anymore.
This was just an analogy, and I personally do not dislike the ballet, I just would prefer to use my time differently. Isn't it about time?

I listened to the Mormon Stories podcast. There was some interesting discussion wondering about the process that was used to determine what to put in the bubbles and whether or not anyone did any actual research or polling to determine the contents. I kept expecting someone to point out that there actually was someone who did a survey determine exactly why people really leave and the results of that survey were presented to the church. That person was John Dehlin, but rather than include the specific reasons given by people who had actually left (BoA, dishonesty of leaders, financial opacity, etc.) they just included Dehlin as the cause of people leaving, completely ignoring the individual reasons. So if it's not the information that Dehlin delivers it must be his Korihorian skill of deception. How convenient.

I picture a SNL type skit with the Q15 sitting around a table trying to come up with bubble items for the PowerPoint.
Oaks: add threat to religous freedom.
Bednar: I don't think they leave for that. Add pornography.
Nelson: yes porn for sure
Holland: Satan has a grasp on people because they are members and I think many would rather leave and look at porn.
Ukdorf: ummm, not sure about that.
Packard: make it a big bubble

Why are they ashamed of what they are doing? Why is it secret?

That's exactly what Mrs. Hagoth said when she read about it in the Trib this morning. I told her it's probably because they name specific people as enemies. That really takes it up a notch from just listing general grievances.

She was more bothered by the leak about General Authorities' kids getting an allowance until they're 25.

By the way, wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall for the conversations about the disloyalty of the people leaking these things? They must find it infuriating beyond words.

Because it makes them look like fools. It is the Q15 admitting that the church isn't the wonderful thing they like to say it is. If it was people would not be leaving it like they are. It is them admitting that one man (John Dehlin, Denver Snuffer, or Robert Norman) or a group of women can have a major impact on them. They are acknowledging that some of their policies are unpopular. They can't admit to these things in public, but they do admit it to themselves. And the makes them look like old fools.

It is relatively unsurprising that they would get the issues wrong. Inspiration only flows one way in this church, from the top down. Information, also, only seems to flow one way, from the top down. My bishop and stake president know about my testimony loss. They have not put forth one bit of effort to try and understand why. There has even been a ward conference where the stake presidency came out to do visits and "rescues" to special case people. I did expect to be "rescued," because I announced my disaffection fairly close to that conference. I was surprised when it didn't happen. Not offended mind you, just surprised.

They don't want to know the reasons, otherwise they would be asking local leaders. Time and time again they have demonstrated the inability to answer the prescient questions of the times. In the words of John spong's daughter, they are providing answers to questions that no one is asking. And they are not providing answers to questions that a lot of people are asking. I think this is a great example of the fact that this derelict is definitely not helmed by Jesus.

I wonder if it is my changed attitude of the last couple of years, but the general attitude or feeling I get from the top is tinged with a hint of desperation.

Isn't it amazing that they (local leaders) won't come to the rescue when they understand your reasons are intellectual and not simply behavioral?!? I've been ignored too, but I'm pretty glad this is the case. Better than constant harassment.
