"We are belligerents defending good." Boyd Packer

Post by deacon blues »

"In the Church we are not neutral. We are one-sided. There is a war going on, and we are engaged in it. It is the war between good and evil, and we are belligerents defending the good. We are therefore obliged to give preference to and protect all that is represented in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and we have made covenants to do it." Boyd Packer

"You can realize right now, there are no rules in war." A well-known contemporary political partisan, that I won't name.

"The first casualty of war is the truth." 20th century proverb.

Interesting post, thanks. I'd not seen the BKP quote. Interesting choice of word using "belligerent", as it is usually used in a negative context, so I'd say it's spot on for ol' Boyd K, as he was as stubborn, set in his ways, and narrow-minded as any leader in the church.

Your last line, first causality of war being truth- too right.

Where'd all this war business come from anyhow? War in heaven? What the hell was that war fought with? God being almighty would have had to know the outcome of that one and the best weapons to use. Pretty sure the war was fought using sacrament trays, at least that's what someone told me long ago and I liked it. Might have read it somewhere in a NOM post.

Good and evil, and Mormons are the good guys and gals. Every one else- the bad guys and gals. That's a beauty for sure, but after all, we have a secret weapon- we made covenants. Zowy. What a weapon. Who needs sacrament trays when you have covenants?

Elder Boyd K. Packer knew you could belligerently defend The Little Factories by tying your hands to the bedrails at night. Nothing cultish about that!
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

When I first read that I thought it said "face sitters" as in face hugger alien xenomorphs :D
Now that would be a formidable weapon to hurl at your enemy!
