Brad Wilcox 2.0 apology or more of the same?

This guy just is not getting good advice or counsel on how to deal with something like this. He continues to step in it. Once again he appears tone deaf. Hasn't apologized yet for his other crazy sexist remarks and trashing other religions. He just says that he didn't get it and had said these things before but now he's been "corrected" by his Black LDS friend and member of the General YM Presidency and he's grateful for the atonement and he has this Black LDS man do his fireside with him (virtual event for Edmonton, Alberta, Canada youth) and they talk about trusting the Lord. That's it. He's still back on the road talking to youth. That "time out" didn't last long. Not sure what he is thinking or what the church is thinking. Wow.

Whether it be politicians or religious leaders, I just wish they could talk to people like they were human beings instead of reading from their prepared notes. The "general conference speaker" tone is just so robotic.

It comes off as being pretty insincere or too scripted.

The look on his wife’s face was all I needed to see. Angry that poor Brad was getting picked on. She’s clearly upset that people are upset.

It would have been even better if he had hired Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J Blige, and Kendrick Lamar to appear in his apology rap video, but I heard they they were busy last Sunday.

Joking aside…

I just appreciate the deviation from the normal “we don’t apologize” even if it was worthless and nothing changes.

The rest of the world doesn’t care what Brad has to say. He’s an insignificant voice in a wacky religion that can’t move on from its racist past.

At least Brad has made some inroads to the Great LDS Apology Reticence. This apology has helped loosen its institutional stiff neckedness to some degree and brought the leadership of the Church to acknowledge one of the key components of repentance. Whether they fully embrace the concept remains to be seen.

I think you can rest assured the church does not consider this an apology on the part of the institution. This is one LDS employee apologizing on his own behalf. Nothing more.

It's interesting to note that Brad Wilcox apologizes. God doesn't apologize. Neither does Dallin Oaks, at least so far. Is the Q15 actually seen as demi Gods because they don't apologize?
Bro. Wilcox says he trusts in the Spirit, but the Spirit didn't help him edit his talk, or prompt an apology- that requires the power of the Church.

The second apology was much, much better because Brad indicated he had counseled with Bro. Corbitt (a black counselor in the YM Presidency) and got it all worked out as far as why he had been so racially bigoted. Also, the video seemed to flash to Bro. Corbitt for 0.2 seconds so that made it even more legitimate.
Although, I don’t think he counseled with other groups that he degraded like women, girls, other churches, the institution of marriage, people who have left the church….okay…I seriously doubt he still has any idea as to why he was so offensive…but kudos for being quick to apologize unlike Oaks, et Al.
