Mandalorians

Post by stuck »

If you guys saw the 5th episode of Boba Fett, did anyone else liken the Mandalorian helmets to the garments? The Mandalorian was about to kill the other one in a duel when their "prophetess" stopped them and asked if either of them had removed their helmets for any reason. Since the one who was about to be killed had always worn the helmet and the other one hadn't then he had to be banished from them and he left.

We aren't banished for not wearing the garments but looked down upon and in some marriages like mine, I have to secretly not wear them because if I didn't wear them openly, there would be more friction in the marriage. This is yet another sign we belong to a cult :x

Haha, yes, it was a cult.

I saw this too and had similar thoughts. Not unique to the LDS church of course. It is one of many examples around the world of what sociologists call high demand or strict religions. It creates tribal cohesion which has some benefits and positives in some circumstances with some people. For many of us, being raised in the LDS church, the negatives ended up outweighing the positives.

I love the Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett and how it explores these themes of culture and religion. I love the comparison and contrasting elements of the Mandalorian religion (and it's stricter versions) and the Jedi religion. So good!

I see similar themes and in a lot of ways the strict adherence is like the LDS church. In the earlier show (The Mandolarian) it showed him removing his helmet and why it happened. But the chief prophetess didn't care to hear why. It was all about obedience.

This is where it is very similar to the LDS church. According to the church, there is no good reason to disobey the prophets. What they say goes, and you can't be a good member and disagree with what they say (see Oaks talk stating there there is no place for a "loyal opposition" in the church). Both religions value obedience over everything else.
