Ministering Call by e-mail

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Ministering Call by e-mail

Post by deacon blues »

I just got an e-mail from an elders quorum president that I don't know, :o calling me to serve with/under my next door neighbor in a ministering assignment to five families, three who I already know, two that I wouldn't know from Adam. I friends with my neighbor, but I know nothing about the elders quorum president. Anyone else get any callings like this? :?
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

I’ve been assigned families via text. Mainly because I don’t go to EQ. I ignore them.

Same with the “Ministering interviews” or whatever they’re called.

I haven't been given a random "ministering/hometeaching" assignment for years, but the last time it happened, I'm pretty sure I had quit attending, and a "new" EQ prez that I barely knew showed up on my doorstep and said "Hey we're companions; Blah blah blah..." I simply told him to "let me know" and never heard from him again. (They had just split "the ward" again, so maybe this new guy thought he could save me. Either that or he was just a new President Victim, and they split the ward soon after he was volun-told and he lost his position, I don't remember.)

In a way, there's a part of me that whishes someone would try something like this again, and I had the intestinal fortitude to say: "Hey lets be honest here, I'm not going to 'minister' to anyone on that list, so if you want it done, go talk to someone else. I can 'minister' to ['inactive' neighbor] who I like to drink Everclear with if you'd like. (The Everclear thing is a joke.) He can be my 'minister' and I'll be his 'minister.' Put me down for 100% ministering from now until you hear from me." (Never.)

I also have currently have a'minister' who shows up almost without fail on the last Sunday of every month with a goofy note he as written about something "spirut-chull" and usually some sort of baked good. If I happen to be outside working on something, or I'm stupid enough to actually answer the door, it's about as awkward as human interaction can get. Here's another instance where I'd like to "be honest" some time with him and say something like: "Ok, how 'bout we don't make this awkward? Just give me the goodies, and the Confirmation Bias Newsletter and let's get back to things we'd both rather do."

This stupid program has got to be one of the stupidest things MORmONism has invented. It may have worked at some point in the last 200 years, but It's been completely broken for a long time...

Ministering is home teaching with less data collection.

I think the idea of looking out for your neighbors is great, but assigning you to look after certain neighbors never seems to go over well.

Like back when your mom made you play with her friend's kids. You have to be friends with Billy. Play nice.
