The Bigger Lie in the FAQ - Women in the Church

Post by Not Buying It »

So Reddit has pretty much blown up with talk about how the Church is downplaying that faithful members "get their own planet". Yawn. President Hinckley disingenuously tried to walk that one back 20 years ago with Mike Wallace, it's old news that the Church wants members to think they'll be Gods if they do everything the Church says, but doesn't want outsiders to think they are batcrap crazy, so they've been sending these kind of mixed messages on godhood for years. Not sure why anyone thinks this is something new.

But I was looking at President Newsroom's FAQ some people have referenced as dissing the whole "faithful members get their own planet" thing (https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.or ... ts-101#C13), and personally I think the bigger lie in that FAQ is the one that women lead in the Church. After all, if the only two people at a Sacrament Meeting were a snot nosed 12 year old deacon and the 60-year old Relief Society president, who presides in the meeting?

The statement below is completely dishonest about women's true leadership opportunities in the Church:

Do Latter-day Saint women lead in the Church?

Yes. All women are daughters of loving Heavenly Parents. Women and men are equal in the sight of God. The Bible says, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). In the family, a wife and a husband form an equal partnership in leading and raising a family.

From the beginning of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, women have played an integral role in the work of the Church. While worthy men hold the priesthood, worthy women serve as leaders, counselors, missionaries and teachers and in many other responsibilities. They routinely preach from the pulpit and lead congregational prayers in worship services. They serve both in the Church and in their local communities and contribute to the world as leaders in a variety of professions. Their vital and unique contribution to raising children is considered an important responsibility and a special privilege of equal importance to priesthood responsibilities..

If they listed the church roles in which women are not allowed to serve, it would double the length of the answer. It's tragic how women are treated by church policy and doctrine.

I agree on all points, especially how the exmo world blew up over the last week. It's probably the only time I've predicted something correctly, that the essay would be back up and this time the people on the church's side are sitting back and getting a good chuckle watching exmos make something out of nothing.

It's taken me a few years and I'm still seeing new things, but the way women are spoken to, about, for - it's so demeaning. I'm embarrassed that I didn't see it when I was in, and that I even bought in to some of it.

I saw some of your comments over there Yobispo.

Exmormons eventually grow up to become former Mormons. That’s why the big fuss around the planet thing. Exmo’s like to point and say “see! They’re dishonest look at that ______!”

Former Mormons could care less what the church is doing. They’ve moved on.

Regarding the bigger lie, it seems they like to reassure their women members that they are important equals too while actually knowing the doctrine always has favored men.

So they carve out a small bike lane among the Mormon highway and suggest the women can lead from there.

Mormonism is a relic of old ways. The world knows it and it will continue to dwindle as a fundamental illusion of silliness.

I hope that I'm moving to former mormer territory. I'll ask my therapist tomorrow and see what she thinks.

Still, there is something charming about how Mormons go home at night to spin cotton and churn butter. It would be nice if they had one of those new-fangled fire extinguishers handy when they make burnt offerings on their altars.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I find it interesting that in trying to raise up women to the level of "equal" they bring up child rearing, and insinuate that womens' vital and unique part of that is equal to the responsibilities of the priesthood. So, yeah.. raising a kid? It's kinda the same as passing the sacrament, baptizing people, and presiding over meetings.

Is this man's way of elevating their own importance?

It's hilarious when folks make this comparison. When it comes to "equality" between parents: Motherhood is "equal" to Fatherhood. Full stop.

Motherhood is not equal to fake magick powers and "presiding" (fake authority) that "priesthood holders" think they have.
