I Just Can't Do It.

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

I Just Can't Do It.

Post by NotKeepingQuiet »

I can't believe that the D & C is the course of study yet again. Why in the world do the Brethren insist on digging a knife into the open sore? This just cinched the deal for me. I will NOT be attending GD for the whole year. I simply can't tolerate hearing the "faithful" narrative again and again and again, every four years AAAUUUUUUGGGGGG......I just can't do it anymore. I will be leaving directly after SM, which is painful enough.

Welcome to the parking lot?

I'm the type of guy that hates repetition which as we all know is the backbone of Mormonism. Wouldn't it be great if the lessons went through the real history in micro details? Like reading affidavits, journals, and both sides of the church history and doctrines.

The mormon story is so fascinating and complex and all we get at church is the same vomit inducing baby food!

I prefer to look at it as an opportunity to add a few facts to the discussion. Facts that could lead others to this NOM party. Like NOM missionary work.

I remember in a previous cycle of the D&C that I had to teach a lesson on honesty followed about a month later by another lesson on honesty. I called the HPGL to ask him to find a substitute teacher. I never went back.

After being reminded, in the Church History books I had been reading during that period of my life, of all the times members were told to come up with "alternative truth" about various things, (i.e.: polygamy, temple stuff, etc.) I had a real problem with the same church leaders teaching us about the importance of "honesty"

Oh boy are you all glad you didn't catch the tail end of the new youth program. You would've had the same topic (like the plan of salvation every February) for a whole month, the same month each year. Youth SS was the same topic, with the scriptural works correlated to fit the topic.

62 And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.

Why dont you want to hear this totally awesome cool verse from 132.

10 virgins and no adultery. Bet they dont bring that one up

D&C 132:61-65 are intensely painful. Women are reduced to Pokemon where Joseph "Gotta catch 'em all!" Wives were given out as prizes for loyalty and these policies continue in the FLDS groups to this day. The average Gospel Doctrine class will simply say "eternal marriage is great" and not go in to the details of section 132.

That's when my kids left. The boredom was overwhelming and they just couldn't take it anymore.
