This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

I don't know. That was rough.

Maybe he will join Trump and the hospital. I have a feeling they would be best buddies.

Awwwwww, such relief. I didn’t have to suffer through any of that. My TBM sweetheart is outside figuring out how to put his tools in the new garage (prefab, delivered just the other day, and really so we can leave the ATVs in Idaho over the winter, not for a car) And he didn’t even turn conference on. Talk about tender mercies. Sorry y’all with believing spouses that force you to watch.

Don't forget, his daughter played at the LDS for Trump rally in Arizona. He's chosen his side.
That is a fascinating connection. I only half listened to his talk and thought maybe it would actually help with the political sickness in our nation and elsewhere. Definitely too little too late in that regard. While I agree that political protest should be non-violent, I am not sure that he wasn't taking sides here. At least it will be taken that way by some. So it may end up being what I would call a horoscope talk, vague enough for anyone to take it any way they want.

Yes totally!
He did say some things that could be cherry picked to preach against racism. And I hope some of the things he said will make some super alt-right TBMs take a step back. Or at least the more moderate/left TBMs will have some things to work with now.
He never directly acknowledged the church's racist past and current racial issues. And that is really what Black TBMs want, at least the Black TBMs I know.
He, like so many other people, really only focus on the violence of the riots which is a SYMPTOM. He didn't directly focus on the DISEASE, systemic racism and white supremacy.
Harping on abut unity is the church's way of side stepping the problem of racism. It's not helpful. It's quite hurtful to the people who have to deal with racism.

Good point. Don't call out angry people unless you're actually going to acknowledge why they are angry in the first place.
Calling out angry people without acknowledging the source of their anger is what the church is built on. Greedy people were angry Joseph Smith wouldn't show them the plates (because he had taken money to find buried treasure and not produced). People were mad at Joseph Smith and tarred and feathered him (because he was boinking everybody's wife/sister/daughter). A mob was so mad at Joseph Smith that they murdered him (because he destroyed a printing press that was going to spread the truth about his philandering).

This is play #1 in the church's playbook.

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
