The erotic Mormon mind is an unusual thing. Nothing in Mormonism prepares a child of god to become erotic, sexual, and desirous. It just happens even if in the most natural and characteristicly normal way. Yet in Mormonism, it's a highly abnormal way that only those with familiarity of mormon culture can understand.
The Erotic Mormon Mind: David has a secret.
David was a deacon. Maybe twelve and half or closer to thirteen. On Sunday mornings, Sister Bendar noticed her son David washed his hands alot before church. Having noticed her sons propensity for repetitive behaviors, she didn't think anything of it. Young David was a good kid. Always obedient to his parents and leaders. He was often told he would go far in life. Especially if he was obedient to the laws and principles of God as found in the scriptures and the For the Strength of the Youth Pamplet. On Sunday mornings David never seemed to be himself. Always nervous. A little feisty. Sometimes angry. His father often misread these mood swings as impulsive hormone driven outbursts resulting from a young boys biological journey to manhood known as puuh, puuh, puuberty. Puberty wasn't a word that was spoken out loud in the Bendar. Nothing of a sexual nature was ever spoken outloud in the home. Not even from a biological point of you nonetheless any talk about the birds and the bees. Silence was the message of choice in his family.
David was a fun young man. He played soccer. Chased the girls at recess. He could race and beat anyone at the rope climb in gym class. Wednesday, April 5th was the day he will always remember. It was the first time it ever happened. A day that he will never forget. Something unusual happened that day. It was the first time he felt a special tingling in between his legs as he climbed the rope. A new sensation that he didn't know existed. A sensation that would later become the source of guilt, shame, and countless visits to the Bishop's office.
On this particular Sunday morning, David was irritable. He hadn't slept very well. Earlier during the previous day he had spent the afternoon shoveling dirt and pulling weeds with his fellow deacons and beehives at Sister Jone's delapidated old house. He was thankful they didn't have to repaint the crusty old shutters. Or vacuum the pee stained carpet again. He secretly had a crush on one of the beehives. She was the secretary in the young women's beehive class. He secretly had a crush on her mom too. He would stare at this grown women who sometimes drove the after school carpool on her way home from the gym. In a sweaty tank top! David didn't know any mormon woman that wore tank tops. He liked her tank top but felt extremely awkward as he tried not to stare and occasionally caught eyes with her in the rear view mirror. He felt a warm tingly feeling inside. A vaguely familiar one he couldn't put his finger on.
It was Sunday morning at 8:45 am. David nervously looked at the clock. He sensed he had one more chance to wash his hands before passing the sacrament. As he went row by row passing the bread, he avoided eye contact with everyone. He had a secret. He felt guilty. He felt shame. He felt unworthy. He felt sick to his stomach.

Creepy indeed, but since it is about David Bednar, please continue with your novella.

Don't leave us hanging!! (Um, maybe that was poorly worded. )
Re: The Erotic Mormon Mind
Is this going to be published in the friend?
Re: The Erotic Mormon Mind
I think that will depend on how the story ends. If it proceeds with how David's crippling guilt leads him to an awkward conversation with the bishop and a story about repentance then maybe The New Era will pick it up.
Instead, if it ends with David exploring and embracing his new found feelings then I think we will get a plot twist and it will end up in The Advocate.
