Apostle Fireside

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

That took a lot of courage azflyer, nice work. I'm glad they took the time to respond to your question, it sounds like there wasn't too much reframing of the question.

Nice work, azflyer. That took courage.

Two questions:
  • As mentioned earlier, what does it say about our culture that a simple, heartfelt, sincere question such as this is the source of so much concern?
  • Why do the apostles ask that these meetings not be recorded? That seems like such a bizarre request. What are they afraid of?

Well done. I've always respected you as a poster, especially as probably one of the only posters here that is what is holding the family in the church instead of the reverse, you catch it from all sides. Those critical of mormonism can't understand why you want to stay, those within mormonism can't understand how you can be so critical. Huge props for continuing to walk the line you see as best for yourself, and being willing to stand up as a voice of reason within mormonism.

AZF, way to go. This took some serious cojones. Good job. Thanks for speaking for all of us who have these questions. Sadly there are no good answers. Yet this is our tribe and where are families are. My brain wants to leave by my heart is with my loved ones.

I respect you for this and your many positive posts.

Amazingly well done AZ! I wish I could have been there!

I think you should be awarded the NOM Medal of Honor for bravery.

Based on what RR said about their responses, they just gave the same “read your scriptures and pray” answer. Oh, and read the essays. Nothing in the essays answers your question, unless they were saying to just be prepared about the issues by reading the essays.

Was there nothing said about loving the person going through the faith crisis? Anything about listening to them, not dismissing/shunning them and still accepting them, or not thinking they’re just lazy or sinning? Anything about how Christ would actually treat them?

I've been checking in with a few people I work with that I know are members that might have been in attendance, just to see how my question was received. When I asked one colleague about the fireside today, he mentioned that he had not attended. I asked if he had heard anything about it, and he said that someone in his ward mentioned that someone was there "heckling the apostles".

I wonder who that was, I sure didn't see him.
