Material wealth and death
Material wealth and death
I was always taught you cannot take material wealth with you to heaven. You can’t take your Rolex with you when you die.
So how did Moroni take the gold plates to heaven if they were a physical object?

To protect people who would be killed by looking at them.

Made-up angels can take made-up gold plates to made-up heaven.
The rest of us? Well, we're not the 1%. (And as far as I can tell, we're not made up. Elon Musk might beg to differ.)

Re: Material wealth and death
I was thinking about this the other day as I was watching the church's stupid "now you know" video on the plates.
The story is so ridiculous that I can't believe as a convert I never took the time to really think it through. The idea that Joseph gave them back and then were buried or stored back in the Hill Cumorah is dumb enough, but the idea that the plates would then need to be taken to heaven is just ludicrous.
All of the work and problems that happened in protecting and making those plates and Joseph never even used them in the translation... and then they need to be brought to heaven so no one could ever see them? Just stupid.

Maybe since Moroni was a resurrected being he could lift things and interact with physical objects.
So maybe you can wear a Rolex once you get your body back.

That uncomfortable moment that all Mormons hate:
Curious person: "So where are the plates now?"
Mormon: (gulp) "The angel took them back to heaven."
Curious person: (raises eyebrows)
Mormon: (blushes)
...Long pause...
Curious person: "So, do you think it will rain?"

This. When its awkward for a fully believing member just imagine how it sounds from the outside. Like that moment you hear some of Scientology’s beliefs and you feel embarrassed and sorry for the members.Hagoth wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 7:20 am That uncomfortable moment that all Mormons hate:

The 116 pages and the stacks of other ancient records in the Hill Cumorah, that amazingly no one has any interest in finding, are similar. Now that I think about it there are a lot of these.

Re: Material wealth and death
Why not just suggest Moroni hid them again on earth? Wouldn’t that make more sense or was he worried it would kick off the “great plate sealed his fate” treasure hunt?

It's even worse when the Mormon hasn't thought about it enough to gulp or blush. That was me on a mission. SighHagoth wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 7:20 amThat uncomfortable moment that all Mormons hate:

Oh man, that would be amazing.
Or just say, "oh, the church has them locked up in a vault somewhere."

When I asked questions like this, my mother always said it's best not to delve too deeply into the mysteries.
Yes, she said "delve".
