I don't have much tech savvy, so when my desktop is slower than molasses in December (9 days out of 10), I mostly just suffer in silence. My wife complained when it took her 30 minutes to copy something the other day. However, today it has been running great, and I'm wondering why. I recall seeing an ad a few months ago that said companies like the one I subscribe to (Comcast) turn down the power in certain areas. Then tonight I saw on the news that, since Utah schools are closing for two weeks, Comcast is providing internet access to low-income families as part of an effort for all school children to have internet access at home. I'm guessing this means they turn the power up in certain areas.
Would this have anything to do with my computer suddenly acting normal?

The Covid-19 scare brings better internet service
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

Pornhub is offering free service in Italy to help those trapped by the quarantine.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Anyone paying for that service is doing it wrong to start with.

It's good your service seems better Deacon.
I'm hoping that residential service doesn't slow to a crawl when everyone who "is able" is working from home, and all the schools are online also.
Will COVID-19 bring the internet to it's knees?

Maybe it's just a failure of imagination, but I truly do not understand why anyone would pay for it. Why would anyone watch for more than 10 minutes in the first place?Just This Guy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:46 am

My reasoning may be poor: just because B follows A doesn't mean A caused B. Plus we've had techs come out and look at our situation and say our signal is weak, bu they can't do much about it. I've gotten used to it. But now it is significantly faster. Maybe I'll just count my blessings and quote Hamfast Gamgee: "It's an ill wind that blows no good.'

There are so many free options, that you don't meed imagination if you don't want to. All you need is some quick googling to find all you could (legally) want without paying at all.Corsair wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 11:46 amMaybe it's just a failure of imagination, but I truly do not understand why anyone would pay for it.
