Oaks face 2 face thread

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

How can we support our friends in their goals?

Oaks -encourage people where they are (wow. wasn't expecting that)

Sis oaks- tells about her conversion story. She kept the commandments. and her goal worked.

I'm falling asleep. This thing is so scripted, but those kids are nailing their lines at least...

Now they are telling the kids to go get their less active friends back at church to do the PISS program.

Time will tell but the app sinks it.

I know exactly how this will play out in my area. Leaders will pester kids until they install the app and then they'll use the app as a monitoring tool to make sure all the kids are participating in the program. It will suck any organic elements out of the program and turn it into yet another mandatory program that has umpteen metrics.

Wow he made it through the whole thing without bashing gays.

It was scripted and boring AF.

But the PISS program isn't that bad. It's a lot less brainwashy than I was expecting.

The only kids who will possibly be excited about the app are the ones whose parents wouldn't let them get a cell phone and are now letting them have one.

Seeing my kids as teens makes me delighted that they're not a part of this. My oldest child is a very happy introvert who invests his time and energy into his personal interests and a small group of friends. The LDS church would definitely try to convince him that there's something wrong with him, but really that's just his personality.

Thanks for the play by play.

I think these face to face events are designed to do a few things:

1. Connect the youth to the leadership of the church.

2. Pair the wive’s with the Apostles in a public forum to squelch the complaints that it’s a men’s club.

3. Push the propaganda and church agenda forward.

The kids think they are lame. At least from all the comments I’ve heard from the teenagers I’m surrounded by.

Well that's good at least

I do feel bad for the kids who don't pick up on the fact that it was totally scripted. They might think this is how "good" kids act. It could be a hit to their self esteem.

Thanks for the running commentary. I forgot about it and neither my daughter nor wife mentioned it either. I'm glad it was not horrifying and that I can simply ignore it.

Thanks for the updates MoPag!

I was told to announce this to our EQ, but completely forgot about it myself. Oops!

I didn't watch it. DW, DD, and DS went to the church to see it because it was encouraged as a way for the kids to be social with others (they had refreshments before the broadcast).

When they came home I asked them how it was. They all replied with a bored "fine", even when pressed I couldn't get any details out of them. Come to find out that DS who is 15, climbed over the pew to be on the pew behind him so he could lay down during the broadcast because "it was so boring I couldn't stand it". DW, who is the most TBM out of all of us and pushes the kids to these things, said she didn't pay attention to it because she was chatting with another lady. It seems it was just another boring church meeting that, like almost all of them, was quickly forgotten.

Great job Elder and Sister Oaks! Keep up the good work in winning hearts and minds!

Well, that's an unfortunate name (PISS)

What does it stand for? (I'm not up to date on the most recent youth program...)

Thanks for taking one for the team Mopag! Sounds pretty forgettable, that's better than some other options.

He didn't mention anything about it being ok for gays to date at BYU now?
