This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Clever observation on Divorce

Post by RS Teacher »

My twelve year old son made a clever observation yesterday that I thought some of you might appreciate. He has a friend whose parents are divorcing because (as my son put it) "the dad isn't Mormon enough."

I tried to explain why that would matter, saying that a lot of LDS people worry that if their spouse leaves the church, the family can't be together forever.

My son shot back quickly, "But if they get divorced, they won't be together now either, so how does that help?"

Common sense for the win.

Good for your son! I love it when my kids show they're thinking for themselves.

Yep.

It also points up the phenomenon that Mormon spouses will put up with all kinds of total b.s. and shenanigans from the other spouse as long as there's even a glimmer of hope that the offending party will "someday" repent and start being a decent human being as a member of the church.

But let a really good person leave the church and WHAMO! You get the axe.

Makes total sense.
