I went to an all women birthday party over the weekend at a casino. Anytime we were near a bar- we did shots of fireball. It was much smoother than I expected. Loved it! 10/10 will try again. MUCH better than jaeger's.

Re: What are you drinking right now?
Some teas I ordered from Vietnam arrived yesterday while I was at work. I'll probably open one of them to try tomorrow since I've got the day off and I'll be able to appropriately ooh and aah over it instead of slamming it down before heading to work. I'm getting into tea and still the giddy nerdy stage and have already exhausted my wife's patience. So you guys get to be the target of my gushing.
Day later edit: I tried one of the teas, a breakfast blend. It's rich and malty with hints of the chocolate and smoky oxidized leaf note that makes me think pipe tobacco (not a smoker so I'm not sure why that comes to mind). It has a nice brisk astringency that makes you want to go back for another sip. I could see it being my workday morning tea if I can can find the perfect balance for just brewing a single cup (the way I did it the first time lets you get multiple infusions but I don't always have the time or the wont to drink multiple cups of tea before work to justify the amount of tea used).

4 cups apple cider
1/3 cup apple brandy
1/8 tsp cinnimon
Dash Alspice
Dash Nutmed
Dash ground cloves
2 tablespoons spoons caramel (I got a maple caramel which is really good)
Mix all ingredients except caramel in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, add caramel. Heat, stirring occasionally, until hot and caramel has dissolved, about 3-5 minutes. Serve immediately. Serves 4-5.

Here’s a true, but scary, Halloween story: Any beer that remains on liquor store shelves at midnight on Oct. 31 — and is 5% alcohol by volume or less — will be poured down the drain.
Unless consumers get there first to snag a six-pack or three — and probably at a bargain price.

They make it sound like either a) It will be illegal for liquor stores to sell beer at less than 5% or b) liquor stores (and by that, I mean whoever owns them) are throwing a temper tantrum because "We won't sell the same liquor that is available at your local grocery store. We won't! We won't! We won't! "

I read somewhere that it is actually part of Utah law: It is actually illegal for the State Liquor Store to sell beverages that are available at "regular" retail outlets.Random wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 7:03 pmThey make it sound like either a) It will be illegal for liquor stores to sell beer at less than 5% or b) liquor stores (and by that, I mean whoever owns them) are throwing a temper tantrum because "We won't sell the same liquor that is available at your local grocery store. Who-da thunk that Utah wouldn't think about all the implications of their new ethanol laws before enacting them? (Yes this sentence is sarcasm...)

Re: What are you drinking right now?
From what I have read, yes, the state liquor stores cannot sell something that is legal to sell elsewhere, hence the need to get rid of it. Utah law is weird like that.
While there will be moaning over the next few days, In the nd, the consumer wins out. The state imposes a 66.5% tax on everything sold at a state liquor store. So once it is available outside, prices will drop dramatically, partially due to the lack of the extra taxes, partially because it will now have to compete for market share like everything else and stores can price it how they want to attract business. The ens user is the one who benefits from this in the end.

Interesting that there's a law like that.

So, if they're getting rid of 5% beer in the liquor stores, does that mean the new law allows 5% alcohol to be sold in Utah stores now?

Re: What are you drinking right now?
We're talking about Utah here... "Interesting" is a good word to describe it. I guess...
The actual reality supposedly is: At the State Liquor Store they have a very specific mark-up percentage that they cannot change. Supposedly after the new law goes into effect, the State Liquor Store will not be able to compete with the grocery and convenience stores. (The same beverages will be more expensive if purchased through "The State.")
I guess that "specific percentage markup" goes "out the window" when they're trying to sell off stuff that they might have to dump after midnight on All Hallows Eve?
Again, It's Utah. Probably no reason whatsoever to try and figure out if any of the alcohol laws actually make sense, because they don't...
November 1st the new law goes into effect, and yes, up to 5% ABV Mild Barely Drinks will be allowed in grocery and convenience stores then.
Utah folks: Walk through the "beer" aisle at any local grocery store and see how empty the shelves are. 4% Mild Barley Drinks are in a bit of a short supply at the moment. Same thing at the State Liquor Store. Barley drinks with an ABV between 4% and 5% are in a bit of short supply.
November 1st though: Party on Wayne! ABV availability outside the State stores is going up a WHOPPING ONE PERCENT!

Would this (beer sold in regular stores) include flavored stuff like Mike's hard lemonade and Smirnoff's? How about Strongbow's hard cider?

Re: What are you drinking right now?
Mike's Hard: Yes, as long as it is 5% ABV or less.
Shmirnoff Ice: Maybe? I don't know. (Technically it's a "malt beverage" like Mike's. I don't know if it was previously available in grocery/convenience stores, I've never purchased or imbibed the stuff...)
Cider: No. Cider is not beer. It's only legal to sell "beer" in grocery/convenience stores. (And honestly, for all I know that could change too...)

I went to Walmart, and most of their stuff looked so boring (I'm not into unflavored beers, as I don't like the taste at all, or the smell).wtfluff wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 11:06 pmMike's Hard: Yes, as long as it is 5% ABV or less.

I did see Mike's, but it wasn't the stronger stuff. I don't know why. It seems like I saw a Smirnoff's, but don't remember for sure. And cider wasn't there, which is sad, because the local liquor store hasn't carried Strongbow's for a while. But there is Lee's in Mesquite. Maybe they have it.
I wonder if there's a store in my neck of the woods that would have a good variety of flavored beers that are 4.5 or 5.

Yeah, Walmart isn't going to have a huge selection in Utah. In my experience, Harmons has the best variety around the Salt Lake area, and I'm pretty sure availability can vary by location for certain things...Random wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 4:17 pmI went to Walmart, and most of their stuff looked so boring (I'm not into unflavored beers, as I don't like the taste at all, or the smell).

As far as flavored "beers" I don't think that the variety is going to go "up" a whole lot in grocery stores with the new 5% law. Mike's, and Shmirnoff, and Redds, and likely not much else, and those will have ever-so-slightly more alcohol (by tenths of a percent...)
As far as Strongbow: St George had 32 cans of "dry" as of 11/5/2019. If that doesn't work, I guess you'll have to go further south. (If you go to the abc website, you can click on the "Locate a Product" link on the front page and search inventory at all the stores in the state as of the previous day.)

There is a Harmon's in St. George. I could check it out some time.

Well, at first they had the Strongbow hard cider I wanted, then they kept not having it, then I saw the dry (which I don't think I'd like as well) but not the regular, and the last time I was there (Halloween, I think), they had neither kind. (I'm referring to the store on the steep hill, up from St. George Blvd; I think there may still be another state liquor store on Sunset Blvd. I don't know what they have.)As far as Strongbow: St George had 32 cans of "dry" as of 11/5/2019.
