Winter is Coming in April

Post by moksha »

No, this is not a weather report... it is my wanting to start a thread about the final season of The Game of Thrones.

Are any of you fans of the show?

I used to pirate the show back in the days of low speed internet. It would take FOREVER to load. And then what if it froze on one of the naked boobies scenes?! I couldn't get my then-TBMish hubby to watch it with me in the beginning because it was too vulgar.

How the world has changed in just a few short years.

Thank you HBO-Go! We cant wait for the final season!

GoT fan here...

My TBM DW finally watched all of the available seasons recently when she found out it was available on VidAngel. We had to subscribe to HBO through Amazon video and also get a VidAngel subscription. Then we could watch it on our AppleTV and Roku. But she had the filtering turned up so much that I feel it ruined the show. I had to explain to her what happened after some of the big episodes. She wasn't sure who was dead and who was alive.

I am looking forward to the final season...

I've never seen Game of Thrones. I tried to read the first book years ago, and couldn't get past the first hundred pages.

Now Wheel of Time? That's a series I'd root for.

I pirated the last season of Battlestar Galactica, and ended up with a Trojan.

The virus or the prophylatic?

I imagine a great number of the remaining characters will be dead by the final episode. Hope Jon or Daenerys will be sitting on the Iron Throne rather than the Night King (he would probably refuse to issue any apologies for his army of the dead by claiming infallibility).

Seems to me that Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones are the two best television series ever and that is even with strong competition from The Stand and Roots.

Watching season 7 again to get ready for the new season. Man there's some nice T and A in that series! First season was like Game of Porn. But I digress, that's not the only reason DW and enjoyed it. She likes the women that kick ass and I just think it's great entertainment.

I watched the 1st season, but just could not get into it. I got bored will all the political manipulation and posturing. DW is a big fan. She loved it. I picked it up again in Season 6, so I have a basic idea what is going on. Even though I had to as DW for a lot of info on the filler, I found season 7 enjoyable enough. I'll watch season 8 when it comes out. DW defiantly will.

I found S1 particularly slow - in fact I stopped watching because it was so hard to get into. I did eventually push through though, and by early S2 I was quite hooked. S1 seemed to be all foundation building, which though necessary doesn't propel the story forward so much. I've rewatched parts of S1 though, and see now how things that seemed insignificant at the time were actually quite important.

So excited.

MIL is TBM, but can be a bit naughty.

Discussing GoT nudity and sex with me, and DW

MIL: It's all tastefully done

RJ: No it's not

MIL: It's just in the background

RJ: Not it's not

Mil: Silence

RJ: (laughing at naughtiness of MIL)
At the halfway home. I'm a full-grown man. But I'm not afraid to cry.

HBO hit a record number of views on Sunday for GOT Season 8 Episode 1.

So S8E1 came out swinging with family reunions, old enemy reunions, dragon rides, sex and nudity and John Snow Targaryen in a tight spot with his queen/aunt. Noice!

I don't know how a TBMs can justify indulging in this show with all the sex and nudity, but you know damn well there's quite a few out there watching it.

A survey by Geek.Com found that GOT was the most binge-watched show in the USA. In Utah, the most binge-watched show was When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel. Of course, another Utah motivation for this show could be the Chick-fil-A sponsorship.

I'm very excited for this final season. But, like Mad Jax noted, I have no idea when the next book will be out. As far as the books go, Jon Snow is still dead. It has taken so long for this next book and I am not sure how the books will be received with the full series on DVD and streaming.

Back when I had dish network I found that on free HBO weekends I could watch any episode on demand and it would remain available for up to 30 days on my DVR. In this way I could download multiple seasons of GOT (or any other show) and then watch them after the free weekend was over. This is how I watched most of GOT.

One other way to watch for free (if you are a cheapsake like me) is to sign up for a free week of HBO NOW. You just need a device that has the HBO NOW app on it (Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, or various smart TVs). You need to put in a credit card but as long as you cancel before the 7 days you can binge for a full week for free. (I signed up on Monday so I can now watch the first two episodes of season 8, and I am re-watching all of season 7.)

Well I'm going to have to watch S8E3 again, but this time on my 4k TV out in the family room. All the dark scene were a little hard to follow on the old 1080p. Not that there's any major plot twists in this one, just a lot of guessing who dies and who survives. I do like the choice for who ends that war, that was a nice surprise.
