Merry Christmas!
It is really nice to have this forum of people for support - and to feel less insane.

Ditto to everyone! I'm skipping SM on Christmas so it will be quite merry indeed :)

I may not pop in as often as I'd like to, but I definitely wanted to come here to say this!

Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Sticking with the brass theme, I love this stuff as a former trumpeter.

Merry Christmas everyone. BTW we had a great nuanced and historically accurate family Christmas devotional last night. I shared all I have been learning about new testament authorship and historicity. I still did it in a faith promoting way, but we clarified dates, years, what we know and what we don't about it all. It felt good.

Even if it's something disappointing, it's still better to know the truth. Because people can deal with disappointment. And once they've done that, they can feel that they have really grown. And that can be such a good feeling. -Fred Rogers

Thanks for the links, MV. They were a step up in quality from mine. I was going for novelty. Go Trombones LA!

I got a DVD of The Village from off my Christmas list. I think it was your introduction that reminded me how this movie had played into my disaffection. I seem to have the flu so maybe I will watch it while stuck in bed.

DPR, get feeling better. It is not a cinematic masterpiece but The Village is thought provoking for sure. I can see how the founders desired to create such a place. I can see why parents and leaders of civilizations created mythology and religion to do similar things. The what Joe says in D&C about power comes true and they take advantage of people like he did.

Anyway, enjoy and get feeling better.
