Discussions toward a better understanding of LDS doctrine, history, and culture. Discussion of Christianity, religion, and faith in general is welcome.

If two hour church as actually announced, we will have plenty of faithful Facebook posts about the new found testimony of two hour church. Perhaps we could respond with our ongoing testimony of zero hour church.
If 2 hour church is more inspired than 3 hours, then surely 0 hour church is even more inspired. [emoji1]
My TBM family would be so thrilled to have this happen. They despise giving so much time to the church but still glue on a happy face and show up to everything. Sometimes it takes all the energy I have to not point this out to them. But doing so would only increase the entrenchment.
I officially prophesy that 2 hour church will never happen. The corporation needs the members to stay zombified and not question anything. If they give them an extra hour at home, they lose more control.
Bill Reel posted his potential changes from a trusted source:
- loosening of the word of wisdom
- 2 hour block instead of three
- shorter endowment sessions
- removing the 1 year wait to be sealed after a civil marriage.
- making garments no longer required outside the temple
- equalizing missions - male and female 18 years old and 24 months
- closing of the SLC temple for 5 years for renovation

That's quite a list. I don't care much about about the last two, but any of the others would be awesome. So I'm guessing it will just be the last two.

I don't see how they loosen the word of wisdom without looking incredibly foolish.
I don't see how they take away wearing garments because it gives up so much control over members.
I can see them waiving the 1 year waiting period after civil marriages because ultimately it benefits them to get people sealed quicker so that they can be further under the 'control' of the covenants made. I don't know how much shorter the endowment sessions would be so hard to say on that one.
But the two that would be real progress I just do not see happening. Prove me wrong, church... prove me wrong.
We have a friend who's daughter was supposed to get her mission call this week via email. She received an email saying her call will be delayed until after general conference.
Program changes are coming.
Thinking about potential changes mentioned by Bill Reel. The garment thing would be nice but if true you would still get the crazy TBM's who decided to still wear them 24/7. So stupid. So stupid. So stupid!

Would be pretty funny if you signed up for an 18 month female mission and the church gives you a 24 month mission. I imagine some would be fine with the extra six months, but I can see a lot of others none too pleased to have another six months of their lives sucked up by this church.
I’m oddly excited about the SLC Temple closing for extensive renovations. The annex needs a significant styling upgrade to make it more sympathetic to the original.
I would hope they would do an open house, but I would say the costs associated with it would be astronomical as interest would be very high within and outside of the Church.
The only way Mormons will take off the weird underwear is if RMN stands at the pulpit and takes his shirt off on live GC TV to show members he's serious!
I'd sustain him!

I really can’t figure out why anyone is taking the current Conference rumors any more seriously than the ones from years past that were wrong.

The more elaborate and detailed and certain they become the more sure I am nothing is going to happen.
Members are desperate for something, anything interesting, new, faith promoting or, at the least, less painful than status quo.

Agreed.
I think there will be some changes...but trying to predict what actually happens is just speculation. I agree that RMN and his cohort will retrench. They are not forward thinking...they are "tighten the thumb screws" type of people.

Why do people bet on football games or prognostigate about elections? It can be fun! Myself, I would gladly buy into an office pool about changes simply because it's truly a game of chance. It will doubtless be more of the same crap wearing a fabulous new wrapper like "Ministering" but what if the change is raising the age for female missions? Or announcing a temple in North Korea? Lighten up, have some fun. The return of wine, homemade of course, to the sacrament table would be cool. As would "spiritual wifery" in some form...
For some reason, I'm still included in a group text for my EQ. It's only 1-2 texts per month of general info, "XYZ family needs help moving, Halloween party is Oct 21", etc.
Last night was a bit peculiar. The EQ prez texts that the SP will be attending SM today to install a new BP. The timing is a bit odd, current BP was in for only 5 years.
I'll buy into the conspiracy just a little with all the comments above. If the ChINO is making some wholesale changes, installing a new BP might be a good move to indoctrinate the new leadership into the new and everlasting policy's.
To add fuel to the fire, here's my list:
2 hour church
8 yr olds can do baptism for dead.
Mission age and duration same for boys/girls
Canonize Proclamation on the family
Garment pattern update (but wearing it will still be 24/7)
