Going to miss KBYU

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Going to miss KBYU

Post by moksha »

I'm going to miss KBYU being a PBS station. Some of the British shows were quite enjoyable. Now they can cater to a mormocentric audience, with Church made programs and primetime fare like Muppets in Space.

I can understand BYU's need. They create a lot of wholesome family fare. Without PBS, they will not have to suffer through those programs on evolution, space phenomena and anomalies, and the timeline of the universe.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

KBYU dropping PBS for their content and going independent?

I hear that worked out really well for their football team!

Why have real victories when you can have "moral victories"?

Hmmmm...is the COB dictating more media control in order to better control the airwave narrative for it's TBMs? If you see encouragement over the pulpit for TBMs to tune into that one channel and avoid all others then the answer is clear. Making wholesome programming more holy perhaps. I used to frequent KBYU for PBS content, but I'll just be removing this one off the channel list now.

No one watches it anyway (streaming). They just don't want to pay money for the PBS content, it is getting expensive.

Wait. What? Are they getting rid of KBYU altogether, or are they just removing themselves from PBS and renaming the channel?

There's already a BYUTV cable/satellite channel. My guess is they don't want to pay PBS fees and they'll just broadcast their cable channel locally so people without cable/satellite in Utah can still watch. Or they've realized that between their apps and the cable channel, nobody was watching their content on KBYU anyway.
