I know this probably happens in all religions but I keep getting the feeling it should happen less among Mormons and those who get caught up in these scams seem so gullible. Like it runs in their dna....
I had a bishop get convicted of running a Ponzi scheme, and unsurprisingly he was always on about the kids having to get jobs before they went on missions, regularly talking about the temporal blessings of following the commandments (basic prosperity gospel bullsh*t). Big on tithing and tithing settlement. Used to bring his private collection to the chapel for an Art Appreciation Night in the guise of Community Outreach or whatever.
