Why do we hear it over and over?
Sams message may be important, but it was the wrong time and place.
Its the wrong time and place for Mekenna to speak out.
The wrong time and place for Savannah.
Kapernick went about it wrong (not lds related but same thing) as did the Sept 6, and D. Micheal Quinn....
In and out of the church, people always do this:if it causes cognitive dissidence in the audience, your message is wrong because they dont want to hear it.
Why do they always want problems affecting us all to be pushed to the back, spoken of softly, behind closed doors, the masses largely ignorant or the problem?
Im hearing so many say if only Sam went about it another way, he wouldnt be in this boat.....but he would. Maybe not today, but he would.
Delighn, Bill Reel, Kate Kelly, Gina Colvin, Mellikie....they all tried doing it softly, not ruffling feathers and nothing happened. They were politely ignored until thr buzz in the ear got too intense then they were swatted like flies or they wore themselves out.
Its NEVER the time or place to disagree. Its NEVER the time or place to question or reflect or explore. Its NEVER appropriate to do anything but to respectfully obedient.
why on earth did our people allow this culture to evolve?

It's frustrating to see the last resort in a discussion of facts be: I disregard those facts because of my faith. Why even talk about facts if the last resort is to put faith above all facts that are contrary to your faith?
Re: Time and place
As you indicated, they want all of these issues taken care of behind closed doors where they can control the fallout.
If members do their questioning in a public forum they run the risk of stampeding the rest of the herd.
Members sitting in the audience might hear something they never had before. The infection could spread. The questioning member becomes a danger to the entire body. Better to just quietly amputate the offending member, feel sorry for a short time at the small loss but know that you're a hero for saving the rest of the body.
And you know there's scriptural support for this. I could actually go along with it if the church was really "true".
But it isn't.

The problem is that their authority is founded on sand. The only way to maintain it is by illusion of consensus, which relies critically on most people not noticing certain things. Two of those things are that Joseph Smith can't be trusted, and that they are not always right.Palerider wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 2:22 pm As you indicated, they want all of these issues taken care of behind closed doors where they can control the fallout.

Anybody who makes people notice something that weakens their authority has to go, to maintain the illusion of consensus.

Re: Time and place
I was watching Blade Runner 2049 the other evening.
All of society was based on the fact that replicants were incapable of reproduction. When it is rumored that a child has been concieved by two replicants there is a huge effort to kill the child and repress the truth.
When questioned about why they feared the truth, the authority figure states that "order" has to be maintained at all costs. And that the division between humans and replicants is the critical factor in that order.
Maintaining the order (of the priesthood) authority, trump's all other virtues, including truth. Truth means nothing by comparison. Loyalty is the only litmus test.
The division between church leadership and the rest of membership plebes is everything. Without that division there is no leverage to manipulate men and women.
