Obsessing

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Obsessing

Post by slavereeno »

I am obsessing about Mormonism again...

But on a positive note, I just watched a Zelph on the Shelf cover on youtube called "Tiers in Heaven" and laughed till I had tears.

That is an awesome song.

I almost posted a reply on a TBM blog. I stopped myself when I realized the futility. I know what it's like to obsess.

Isn't it just about year since your faith crisis? I got slammed about a year after mine, and didn't realize it until later when I was reading something about grief. It might have been that the misty October nights transported me. I'll be ready for it this year.

Brother Jake sometimes helps me. So do Dinosaur Comics, Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, Futurama, and (until I've finished it) Cowboy Bebop.

Again?

I haven't been able to stop since falling in the rabbit hole 2+ years ago.

A lot of the Zelph on the Shelf covers are great, Tiers in Heaven especially. I like their redo of Paul McCartney's Imagine, and Awake my Soul by Mumford and Sons as well. All good stuff.

One of my all time favorites though, has to be Brother Jake's "Brother Joseph (Hamilton Parody)"

The major fallout was Jan of 2017, so yeah, about a year and a half. I didn't get the courage to post here until October (or November?) of 2017 though.

Yeah part of my obsessing yesterday was to re-watch all the brother Jake videos again at 1.5x speed. My guilty pleasure was to "like" all of them. When I first watched them I was afraid to "like" them and even removed them from my viewing history. Now I don't really care. I also signed up for the exmormon reddit.

LOL. Man, I like you. I felt exactly the same way. Watching Brother Jake and Zelph videos in incognito mode. One week I didn't use incognito and that night my wife went through my history searching for a video our toddler wanted to watch....

She saw Brother Jake's video on Mormons supporting Trump, she actually thought that one was funny. I don't think she saw any others. Or if she did she didn't say anything, which really makes me think she didn't. She found Tanner's (Zelph dude) poem, Mormonism and Me, but she didn't finish it. She also saw the Dan Vogel videos I had watched, but she didn't watch any of those either.

Beyond telling me about those few, she didn't press me on any of them and its never come up again.

I find myself there when I'm feeling lonely. Then I get tired of talking folks down from "us" vs. "them" rhetoric and put it down for a while. I guess it's a little like social drinking, but I can't really get into it so I police the bar a bit and go home.
