I am familiar with Tom Phillips and his grievances in court in the UK. My understanding is there has not been a "prophet" or member of the FP testify of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon since that thing hit on the other side of the pond.
Does anyone know how much the Book of Mormon was "testified" of during conference, and by who?
I didn't listen to General Conference,...but was BoM testified of?
Re: I didn't listen to General Conference,...but was BoM testified of?
So, I am way too lazy to read every talk. I found several apostles who recount stories from the BofM clearly implying the historicity of the book. The closest I found to an actual testimony from RMN is this:
I did find a pretty clear testimony from TSM back in April of 2017.Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, earnest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon, and regular time committed to temple and family history work.
I don't think anyone is really worried about a successful lawsuit regarding this. Religious belief is heavily protected. However, it would be interesting to see if straightforward testimonies of the BofM are getting less common in recent years. At least, I hope someone else finds it interesting enough to check.Because the Book of Mormon is true, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s Church on the earth, and the holy priesthood of God has been restored for the benefit and blessing of His children.

April 2018 conference was Nelson's coming out party so the Book of Mormon was not center stage. But Nelson had a full court press for the Book of Mormon in his October 2017 address:
The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like without It?
Honestly, Russell, my life would have been radically different had I not spent two years trying to convince people to read it. I read it completely through at least a dozen times in that period.
This talk has a section appended at the end entitled "President Nelson’s Book of Mormon Lists" which starts off with this claim

So the narrative continues for now.Russell Nelson wrote:The Book of Mormon is:
- Another testament of Jesus Christ. Its major writers—Nephi, Jacob, Mormon, Moroni—and its translator, Joseph Smith, were all eyewitnesses of the Lord.
- A record of His ministry to people who lived in ancient America.
- True, as attested by the Lord Himself.

"Exact obedience." This idea is certain to induce shame and anxiety for some folks. As if "obedience" alone isn't enough.

It would be interesting to do some deeper analysis on the words the COB is using. I know I did a quick scrub through TSM's last twenty of so conference talks and could only find statements like "You can know the BOM is true by..." but nothing directly testifying, like you hear in a FTM from local: "I know without a shadow of doubt..." or like we used to hear from ETB. There was some theories this was due to the law suite in GB by the former SP, but I don't know enough detail to know for sure if Kirton McConkie told the COB, at least the prez, that they can't make direct truth claims anymore.Rob4Hope wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 2:36 pm I am familiar with Tom Phillips and his grievances in court in the UK. Just like RFM analysis of the last conference to reveal the death march theme, it would be interesting to see a language analysis on topics like truth claims, last days, etc., to see how the main dogma has evolved or devolved over time and how the narrative has shifted.

The slow meandering doctrinal changes that happen through the subtle redistribution of emphasis on doctrines, and the careful avoidance of discounting or correcting past doctrines, DRIVES ME NUCKING FUTS!!!!RubinHighlander wrote: ↑Tue Jul 31, 2018 8:59 am Just like RFM analysis of the last conference to reveal the death march theme, it would be interesting to see a language analysis on topics like truth claims, last days, etc., to see how the main dogma has evolved or devolved over time and how the narrative has shifted.
Its cunning....
And its a way to lie....carefully.
When I think of the leadership and how they do this, I see a group of wolves dressed in slick suits. They have to be careful with their words, and they have lawyers probably editing their talks and advising them. Its a corporate joke,...and the typical TBM believes it comes from God and not the office of a some think-tank lawyer group.
Oh, what easy prey ... what easy prey....
