Confession time: drank a beer, went to church.

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Confession time: drank a beer, went to church.

Post by Spicy McHaggis »

Technically it wasn't even half a beer. I have a recipe for a pot roast in a slow cooker. It calls for a cup of beer so I finished off what was left in the bottle.

BTW, if you're in Utah, Evolution Amber Ale by Wasatch Brewery is VERY good.

Also, found out my TBM DW mixes a mocha drink every morning with instant coffee. Maybe my heresy is rubbing off!

You made my day by sharing this. :) Wine is probably the only thing that could get me through church meetings now.
Even if it's something disappointing, it's still better to know the truth. Because people can deal with disappointment. And once they've done that, they can feel that they have really grown. And that can be such a good feeling. -Fred Rogers

Church and drinking go together like bleach and brake fluid (safety tip: do not do this). What should be the rules for the "Attending an LDS Sunday Meeting" drinking game? This might be especially useful during testimony meeting:

Do a shot if:
  • an unaccompanied Primary age child bears testimony
  • you get the testimony "suicide pact". "XXXX said they would come up here if I bore my testimony"
  • a non-ward member bears testimony
  • "I don't know where I would be without the church"
  • "I felt the spirit and had to get up"
  • you get either a travelogue or a medical history

Making a health code is a good thing except when the science lacking portions of that health code make the code seem picayunish. Then pretending that the picayunish items have a sacred status makes the whole thing seem ridiculous.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

It's funny how times have changed. At the dedication of the Kirtland Temple it was pretty much essential that you drank from the bucket they were passing around to make sure you had a bonafide spiritual experience. Now they expect you to get some value out of church while stone cold sober.

You were just reaching back to your Mormonite roots, Spicy.
