Kudos to the Pope for being more open minded that other religious leaders. Now if we can only stop Ageism discrimination and have more acceptance on who people are attracted to rather than try to dictate what is and isn't acceptable in our society, that would be progress too. I know a case of a 30 year old woman who fell in love with a 55 year old man and some people were saying, heck he could be her father! Nonsense. People don't choose who they are attracted to. Ask Elder Nelson, the Prophet. While society has evolved and become more accepting of same sex unions, I think it still holds many other prejudices that need to go away too. Ageism is one of them, especially within Mormon circles.

Gaius Baltar has become Pope.
Re: Pope Francis tells gay man: 'God made you like that'
His uttterings are pointless as they will be bleached from history within the next couple of papacies.
If he was to call a Vatican III to discuss those issues collectively and then issue a papal bill reinforcing that, then we’re talking historic and brave. Until then, his words are worthless.

This is pretty much what the American Psychiatric Association would say, minus the God part. Contrast this to what the LDS Church and Vladimir Putin would say.Rome (CNN) Juan Carlos Cruz, a survivor of sexual abuse, spent three days with Pope Francis at the Vatican in April, in which he discussed his sexuality and the abuse he suffered at the hands of a Chilean priest.
Describing his encounter with the Pope to CNN, Cruz said: "You know Juan Carlos, that does not matter. God made you like this. God loves you like this. The Pope loves you like this and you should love yourself and not worry about what people say."
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

While I would high-five Pope Francis over this, the general attitude of Roman Catholicism towards liberal popes should a lesson in maturity for Mormons. I have some friends who are devout and conservative Catholics. They absolutely roll their eyes whenever he goes off message like this. They have openly said, "He's not my pope." As far as they are concerned, the next pope will clear up this nonsense and get back to orthodoxy. They liked Benedict and are annoyed that he retired to let this commie loser into the Holy See.
However, I cannot conceive of a devout, temple rec holding Mormon saying, "He's not my prophet" after some divisive message from LDS Church HQ. This displays both a fundamentalism of Mormons and an organizational maturity of Catholics. Mormons are a long way from being able to separate the man from the office.

Why didn't God tell any of the other Popes or Prophets?

This seems like something that should be in the operators manual for humans. Something like, "Approximately 3-5% of all humans will not be attracted by a polarity reversal when seeking a mate. While this will not produce viable offspring, the human is still loved by God, yadda, yadda, yadda."
