Discussions toward a better understanding of LDS doctrine, history, and culture. Discussion of Christianity, religion, and faith in general is welcome.

Let alone someone who made truly outrageous claims (I dunno, like that they get regular visits from angels or Dr. Who) but couldn't back them up with concrete evidence, yet treated you as if you were crazy for not believing them.

And when you catch them cheating on you, they come back with "I just received a revelation from God to sex up the maid, and by the way God also told me that if you don't get with the program it will come to pass that you will be destroyed, dear."

If there's one thing I can't understand my wife believing, it's accepting polygamy as from God and being OK with it... I will never, ever believe any God would do that, and if he would... I want no part of that god true or not.

This has been Kalikala's biggest issue with the church. Both of us knew about polygamy as we were raised (her entirely, me for the last ten years of adolescence) in Utah. My paternal grandmother's ancestry practiced polygamy. Neither of us realized how insidious, abusive, and just plain disturbing the actual practice of polygamy was. It wasn't until my disaffection with the church that we really started to examine it. My DW has a tender heart and it's breaking over how Emma was treated, how the couples affected by JS and BY's polyandry were affected, and how the women in general were treated.

He supplied valuable lumber ie the cedars of Lebanon for the construction of the temple. Actually, there were multiple kings of Tyre and Byblos with the same name. The centerpiece of the Lebanese National Museum is his enormous and beautiful sarcophagus that contains the earliest example of a Phoenician alphabetic script.
So if the golden plates had been written in Reformed Phoenician, Hyram Smith would have been the designated seer stone user?
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

That would require downloading another app onto the iStone.
