The cost of serving a senior mission

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

What drives me crazy is that some of these "missions" are basically working for the church's for-profit enterprises. You know the ones that create money that isn't "tithing" and can be used by the church to build malls (so the brethren can be surrounded by glitz instead of having to look at homeless people), or water fountains for the church leaders to walk by on their way to work in their great and spacious buildings.

So... couples with a lifetime worth of experience can spend $2,500 a month of their retirement savings to go be a plumber, painter, carpenter, or heavy equipment operator for, and I quote, "the multi-corporate, international agricultural management company charged with managing the Church’s agricultural investments". This is despicable. JUST USE YOUR PROFITS TO HIRE SOMEONE TO DO THAT FOR YOU!!!

Every time I hear the words "no tithing funds were used" I about blow a gasket.
Always been the good kid, but I wanted to know more, and to find and test truth.
