Sunday afternoon NOM thread

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

I'm not sure how this is hastening the work, but ok.

Haldo, you beat me to it.

I either love or hate Holland's talks. No middle ground. It's hard for me to judge this one, since it doesn't really feel like a talk, per se.

It does explain why they got rid of the VT message - because they're getting rid of VT.

+5 for recognizing the ability of people to connect via social media (when social media is often used as a punching bag over the conference pulpit)

Same

This feels like more of an assignment than a talk.

Check your emails!

New concept will include some of the following elements:

No longer use HT and VT language.
No more teaching
Ministering doesn't always happen in the home.
Continue to visit as much as possible where ok.
Do the best you can.
Telephone, email, text, conversations, all ok.
Honking not allowed.

Newer more gospel based.

NO MORE REPORTS!!!!

They don't need to know how you visited, just that you did!

Minister to everyone (except gay people, they weren't specifically mentioned).

Bold new approach.

Looks like the church finally caught up with the way many people did "Home Teaching".

Jeez, it took them this long to figure it out? I would go out to dinner with some of my families and counted it. Imagine how the ward Pharisees are going nuts trying to figure out how they'll get credit for being righteous.

Which is different than HT how? Those reports weren't sending any details about visits to HQ either (unless I seriously missed things), he said it like it was a change to the status quo and that aspect of the program doesn't seem to be changing any.

+5 for mentioning all the ways one can minister, rather than bludgeoning them with the scriptures and words of modern prophets.

I wonder why we feel like we can't explain the ministering idea without using 'someone dies of cancer' as an object lesson.

+10 for the opportunity, when they announced YW can be companions, of mentioning to Sister M, "that's what equality for women in the church is beginning to look like." With my young Laurel daughter M sitting beside me for a fist bump.

You need to ensure that when the well cultivated Mormon guilt kicks in about not doing your ministering the guilt is fully weaponized.

-100 for being far, far behind all other mainstream churches. You know - the ones that have clothing closets, free medical clinics, food pantries, regular outreach work in the community? You know, the ones that do ALL of that without carding the recipients to see if they're members?
