See you there, I'm wearing a black fedora.

There will be about 30 of us across the street from the Mesa Temple . All you Zonie types should join us at 3:30 in Pioneer Park.

Looks like they had nearly a thousand at the march today, hopefully someone who was there will confirm. Well done, all that were there. I look forward to the return and report.

Did the SLC NOMs meet up anywhere? I just got out of a plethora of planning meetings and could really use a good beer right now. Sitting in some of those long meetings with software architectural engineers arguing about coding and design methods is akin to the mind numbing meetings of bad GD or HP lesson.
Here's shot off the phone I took during a quick lunch break:

Re: Anybody else marching with Sam Young this Friday?
A good time was had by all.
It was good to see wtfluff, dproberts, Deacon Blues and Juancito there. I also ran into a kid who was one of my favorite Cub Scouts from my Cubmaster days and we hung out for a while. I promised him I wouldn't tell his dad.
About 11:45 I was starting to worry that there wouldn't be many people but, as per Mormon Standard Time, they just kept trickling in. It's hard to say how many, but at least several hundred. Sam was really well prepared with banners, pre-made signs, hundreds of balloons (but you had to bring your own torches or pitchforks) and a police escort. They actually stopped traffic for us, like some kind of Bizarro World Pioneer Day parade.
I have no idea what actually happened when we arrived at the COB. From where I was it felt like a school of spawning salmon had bumped into a dam. I'm not sure if Sam went inside, but the word that trickled back from the front lines was that the security guards had locked the doors (and I assume were crying out for Jesus to save them from the scary people with balloons - but that part is entirely speculation on my part). Not so much as a how'd you do. At least we were unimpeded by garbage trucks.
Rod Decker was front and center and I saw Dan Rascon from KUTV news right next to the doors, so we should be able to see on the newscast tonight exactly how things went down.

It’s all good brother Hag! It’s six pm and I’m just leaving work to drop a coworker off at the airport. I’ll go watch the sunset and thank Ipthar it’s Friday!

To my surprise we did have a full complement of 30 plus some children .We covered the block in front of the Temple and were seen by a lot of people. Tonight is the Easter Pagent so there were thousands of members there. Most ignore us but there was the occasional favorable comment or horn honk.It was fun.
Re: Anybody else marching with Sam Young this Friday?
Like Hagoth said: It was a march. I have nothing to compare my experience with, as I've never done anything akin to this before in my life. It's a bit cathartic for me to do something like this, so there's that. We were strung out for a block or two on the North-bound lanes of State Street, so if anyone is good at people estimating, take a guess how many folks were there.
Also as Hagoth said, there was no way to know if Sam actually made any contact with anyone other than Security. I'm a nobody, but I wonder why we didn't go directly to the Church Administration Building, where the Board Of Directors (Q15) "should" be hanging out, or at least to the "front" door of the Church Office Building. (We ended up on the North side of the building, which is technically the back of the building.) We did get the attention of a few people in the building, who took a gander at us kooks from the fire-escape route. It was a bit comical to see them looking out at us between the bars (As if they were in prison.) A few of them were snapping photos of us, maybe it was just the SCMC.
I'm sure Sam will weigh in at some point as to how successful he thinks things went.
EDIT: Well, after perusing another DAMU site, it turns out that "the church" sent out a couple "representatives" to meet with Sam. I highly doubt that the Q15 will ever see the petition. Hope this isn't too strong of language for NOM, but I'm sorry, the Q15, and all the other "upper" leadership are cowards.

Re: Anybody else marching with Sam Young this Friday?
Thanks to all those in attendance, and many thanks for the reporting. No change is going to happen without a little pressure, even the baby steps that were taken earlier in the week I'm sure were intended to take the legs out of what took place today, except that it didn't. Good work all that were there!
Yeah, I saw that - looks like a couple of newbies, or interns got the short straw. Sad, isn't it.wtfluff wrote: ↑Fri Mar 30, 2018 5:42 pm EDIT: Well, after perusing another DAMU site, it turns out that "the church" sent out a couple "representatives" to meet with Sam. “Cowards” is the appropriate word. They want us to call them “apostles and prophets”, but no apostle or prophet in the scriptures would have hid from a crowd like that and sent some flunky out to face them instead.wtfluff wrote: ↑Fri Mar 30, 2018 5:42 pmEDIT: Well, after perusing another DAMU site, it turns out that "the church" sent out a couple "representatives" to meet with Sam. It was good to see the other NOM folks at the rally, plus a couple of friends from work. I was heartened to see a lot of young mothers with their kids at the rally too. The best is yet to come.

Re: Anybody else marching with Sam Young this Friday?
Watching the 2 news coverage on FB live last night, the majority of the comments were "why are they marching, the church already changed the policy a few days ago!?!" Apparently these kind of tactics actually work on the ignorant.
Re: Anybody else marching with Sam Young this Friday?
In case anyone doesn't understand the reference, they sent someone out to interrupt Sam's speech and announce that we were not allowed to touch the building. That's just how petty they are, apparently. They see 900 people carrying balloons and signs that say "Protect The Children" and their concern is that some of us might put our greasy hands on their nice building. "Beautiful building you got here, Pal. It would be a shame if something happened to it." I must confess that I have touched that building before and I there were no anti-touching police there to put me in cuffs. And I may just touch it again.
So this is my official announcement of next month's Touch The Building march. I'll get back to you when I've set up the GoFundMe account.
Fortunately, John Dehlin was there to put it all in perspective. In response to the announcement that the church didn't want us to touch the building, he added "or yourselves!"
I'm sure there was some kind of conversation with the lawyers legal options. "So, there's nothing we can do to rain on this parade?" "No, they are completely within their legal right to assembly. UNLESS THE TOUCH THE BUILDING."

Yeah, as if the church ever had the authority to tell parents they can't be in the same room with their own children.
