Spotlight time!! Gen NOMf Spring2018

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Spotlight time!! Gen NOMf Spring2018

Post by MoPag »

Remember in primary when they would do Spotlight? And you would stand up with all your little friends and the teacher would say "this person's favorite food is pizza. This parson's favorite color is yellow..." And you would be all excited like "I hope it's me!!!"

I thought we could have some pre NOMfrence fun and run some spotlights on the potential new Q12 members. That way when we hear who they called, we will know a little about which old, rich, hetero-normative, cis-gendered white men that just got the promotion of a life time!

So here we go:

This person worked for Law Firm whose slogan is “When prominent companies face complex legal issues, they turn to Call & Jensen. From eight-figure verdicts and judgments for plaintiffs to countless dismissals for defendants, Call & Jensen has become the top choice for many companies in high stakes litigation. Founded in 1981 with lawyers from the nation’s top law schools and firms, Call & Jensen litigates with excellence and dedication to its clients’ objectives.”

This person was involved behind the scenes in the excommunications of Kate Kelly, John Dehlin, and Denver Snuffer.

This person pushed Prop 8 in Cali-in which lots of members gave up lots of their own money fighting against marriage equality.

This person encourages local leaders to discipline members for supporting same-sex marriage.

This person had a hand in the November 5 POX policy.

And in a complete slap in the face to the LGBT+ community, this person’s picture is on the banner of the Mormon and Gay website.

:?: :?: :?: :?: Who is still standing? :?: :?: :?: :?:

Elder L. Whitney Clayton!!!!! So his is the name I've been hearing the most. And given that its DHO and RMN running the show, he s a pretty safe bet.

Let's do another one:

This person was President of the Boy Scouts of America.

This person spent his professional career practicing tax law.

This person promotes rape culture:
The dress of a woman has a powerful impact upon the minds and passions of men. If it is too low or too high or too tight, it may prompt improper thoughts, even in the mind of a young man who is striving to be pure.
Women particularly can dress modestly and in the process contribute to their own self-respect and to the moral purity of men. In the end, most women get the type of man they dress for.
This person thinks gay people can be “cured”:
Those with same-gender tendencies have a duty to (1) abstain from immoral relationships and (2) do all within their power to avail themselves of the refining, perfecting powers of the Atonement.
This person has written several books. You can read some pretty awesome 1 and 2 star reviews on amazon.

Anybody BUT Tad please.....

According to the Ensign article a new apostle may be chosen from general church membership around the world. Wasn't Bednar one of these general members since he was technically the President of BYUI and not from the Q70?
Who can be called as an Apostle?

“The new member of the Twelve may be called from one of the Quorums of the Seventy (which are made up of General Authorities who are senior leaders in the Church) or from general Church membership around the world” (MormonNewsroom.org).
In that light, here's my spotlight:

This person was head of an investment firm and lay bishop in the Mormon church who persuaded friends, family, and church members to invest with him. It turned out to be a big scam, taking in more than $21 million. Among victims: his own mother.

The Ponzi scheme, which continued for 15 years, landed This person behind bars, and his investors out of money. What this person did is considered affinity fraud — where a perpetrator tries to swindle a specific group out of money. While this person was already a long-standing member of the Church of Latter-day Saints, other fraudsters have been known to specifically infiltrate a group with the sole mission of perpetrating a scam. The method of operations is simple. The person is introduced to the group, joins the group, and establishes a relationship of trust.

I think both of those are good predictions.

I kind of think that Gerrit Gong might be one of the picks. That way they can at least pretend that they are trying to be inclusive and support diversity.

That said, this regime could very well just stick with the tried and true formula of "white and delightsome".

I was going to do a separate thread for round 2 of Spotlight, but I'll just keep it to one thread.

This person played football for BYU.

This person was a “self-employed businessman in the retail automotive, insurance, and real estate development industries.” :? (that's kind of a lot of things)

This person instructs Bishops to conduct explicit and specific worthiness interviews regarding the law of chastity.

This person has been overseeing the search functions capabilities on LDS.org. He works very hard to hide those pesky little essays that prove how open and transparent the church is.

Gong while entertaining has to realize he's just the ward clerk of the COB. An information provider, a gopher, a low level guy with no pizzazz!

The church operates with type A alpha leaders that can get stuff done and lead a team of other mid level managers.

Gong is just the guy the Q12 called when they wanted to understand something trivial out in the world. Fun facts to know. Sort of like watching Pee Wee's Playhouse.

I wonder if anyone had tried to line up the Lower level leadership by stratums that match the Q12? Identify the crazy hard liners (Bednar camp), the soft liners (Uchtdorf camp) and the in betweens (Rasband?).

Just typing that out made me realize I need new hobbies and interests. Sheesh.

There's a high chance they will call a Gay man! (In name only)

Elder Robert C. Gay
Elder Gay received a bachelor of arts degree in economics with an emphasis in statistics from the University of Utah in 1976. In 1982, he received a PhD in business economics from Harvard University. Most recently, he was the chief executive officer of a large investment firm he cofounded. Previously, he served 15 years as a managing director at Bain Capital. Prior to Bain, Elder Gay worked in investment banking on Wall Street and was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and an instructor in economics at Harvard University. Throughout his career, Elder Gay has also cofounded and served as a director on several global humanitarian organizations that have built schools, medical clinics, microenterprises, and protected children at risk. His extensive work in these areas has helped lift many around the world out of poverty.

Sign me up for the Gong show. It's too much to hope for, but Nelson IS a huge Asia church backer. So we'll see if he at least makes an attempt at diversity.

I'm guessing the other will be from a short list of Robbins, Clayton or Callister. If they call two from this little group, that not only will signal where this fundamentalist religion is headed, it will also keep moving me towards the door.

I knew Rasband was going to be one of the dudes the last time, so we'll see how well the prophesying goes.

Wouldn't Elder Gong's higher IQ be a threat to other Quorum members?

This one's too easy but it's gotta be said:

This person was Jeffrey R. Holland's mission companion in England in the 1960s, and Marion D. Hanks was their mission president.

He was managing partner of Carr, McClellan, Ingersoll, Thompson and Horn in the San Francisco Bay area.

His specialty was privatizing hospitals in California.

He generously "volunteered" his time to helping these hospitals transfer their assets to corporations.

He also became the CEO of the two firms to which he directed the funds from Marin County hospitals that were built on public lands with public funds.

He wears the badge of having perpetrated what has been called "the biggest theft of public property in Marin County history," wherein he and his companies siphoned off tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.

By the time people figured out what was going on and he was taken to court for his actions the statute of limitations had expired.

This man is an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ and as such receives near worshipful adoration.

He could use his awesome apostolic powers to put hospitals out of business by healing all of their patients, but where's the profit in that?

A reddit post with alleged screenshot of Q12 directory has Clayton and Kevin Pearson. Who knows if it is legit or not, but those wouldn't be surprising choices if true...

Original post with the screenshot is now deleted, but there is a thread with someone mentioning it here:
