General NOMfrence Spring 2018

Post by MoPag »

As we all know this weekend, the TBMs will watch General Conference. This can be a tough time for us NOMs. So here on NOM we celebrate General NOMfrence. This will be the 3rd semiannual General NOMfrence!! :D

One of the things we do for General NOMfrence is score the speakers and their talks. All speakers start with a score of 0. If you hear something you like, give them some points. If you hear something you don't like, take points away. We try to go by Hogwarts House points, 5s and 10s, etc. Really bad (or good) stuff can be in the 100s. We will have a live thread going for each session and that is where we will keep track of the points. You don't have to watch to play. Just post your points on the thread and I will count them. Then I will compile a list of the NOMfrence winners and losers.

This General NOMfrence is going to be extra special! I have a few other surprises too! :D Plus the Q15 are going to get 2 new, white butts in the cushy, red chairs. Also it's RMNs first GC as our supreme overlord. Also there is a ton of drama going on within Mormonism itself. So when you see those GC memes on FB don't despair, we are going to have fun NOM style!! :D :D

I would like to bear my testimony of NOMference, it kept me sane last October.

Darth Vader called me this morning and said he was fed up with Mormonism so he won't be attending this year to protest Elder Oaks. We can no longer use his name for auto correct proxy. I'll check to see if Fred Flintstone is available.

My goal is to listen/watch zero minutes. ZERO, nada, none, nil, n/a, not even once!

I don't care about new apostles, renamed programs, carefully worded denials, and other intangible religious blah blah blah.

Nope, nothing but sunshine, a lawn mower, and maybe some bratwurst on the BBQ.

Ok, maybe I'll peek at your posts MoPag.

We’re at my TBM parents house through Sunday. Looking for any excuse to go ride the new motorcycle I’m picking up tomorrow anyway.

It's been almost 2 years since coming out to my dw. The first couple of GC's after my disaffection I agreed to watch it with her. Invariably there would be a talk about lost sheep, coming back, losing your way, or some other annoying euphemism about those who have left, physically and or just mentally. This would lead to a multi hour session of dw bearing testimony, begging, weeping, raised voices etc,. The now classic "stay in the boat" talk caused a real doozy of a confrontation. It was at that point that I informed my dw that sorry honey, I will never watch another Microsecond of conference. But, if you happen to hear a talk on loving your neighbor, or not judging, charity, or unconditional love I would happily sit down and read it with you. I will absolutely not discuss talks who's subject matter is at all related to how super awsome JS was, the BOM, or virtually anything to do with the guidance or policies coming from corporate. COTCOJCOLDS. NO. No f*****g way.

Thanks and praise be to you NOMs that will have to endure this mind numbing event and are willing to return and report to the rest of us infidels your thoughts and experiences. I'll likely be attending the church of the Utah outdoors.

There are probably a lot of NOMs is the same situation. So if a TBM family members approaches you about a talk, you can check it's score on NOMfrence and at least have an idea of what you might be in for. Also for those of us who have a say in the talks picked for RS and PH and SM, we can have a list of NOM favorites and al list of talks to avoid like the plague.

Happy to do it! For me, it feels cathartic and empowering to judge their words as they are saying them. I fell like I'm taking back the power that I gave them for way too long.

I visit this board almost exclusively at work so I don't know if I'll be participating but I'll be here in spirit and will look forward to catching up on Monday.

Those of you torturing yourselves and watching boring "meetings" on Religious Holiday Weekend, keep an eye on Eyring and see how he acts.

He did not look good at the "historic" news conference when they announced the "new" CEO.
