Demographics

Post by redjay »

I'm interested to know more about who my fellow NOMs are. I've tried setting up a poll using the forum, but it was too restrictive. So I've set up a short google survey which can be found here:

Edit(Poll now closed)

[url]https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... f_link/url]

It's just a few short questions: what do you do for a living? What is your age? And what is your gender?

On the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter, but I am curious.

I set up the survey so it could be anonymous - I know that a lot of us value our privacy.

If you think it is nosey/prying, then please ignore.

But if you'd like to contribute, I'll be happy to collate and give some rough feedback on what the survey indicates.

14 poll respondents so far. I will probably round up tomorrow or the day after. If anyone else wants to participate you are more than welcome. I promise I do not work for Cambridge Analytica.

You're not selling this data to Cambridge Analytica are you? Kidding. I'll take it.

Thanks for hosting this poll, Redjay. Admittedly, this poll is self-selecting but one critical point jumps out at me. Apart from the skewed gender ratios, this is the demographics of an LDS ward that the institutional church would love to have. It's filled with professionals in very profitable period of their early middle age. It's a group of productive people that would probably do a great job to staff a ward and fill the ranks of ward and stake leadership.

But it's on NOM. And the contributors are overwhelmingly opposed to continuting support of the LDS church. I still attend my ward and hold down a calling. But my support absolutely does not include include tithing or support for the temple. I simply await the time that leadership casts a skeptical eye on my flimsy testimony hoping to keep my interest supprting their picayune image of Christianity.

I tend to agree that the church has lost some valuable members here.

Obviously we can't say it representative of people who have stepped away in the last few years. But it does seem to have some similarity with the John Dehlin study

http://www.whymormonsquestion.org/wp-co ... r20121.pdf

inasmuch as it seems that the demographic there also suggested that the people stepping away are highly capable, with many holding down good well-paid jobs. So less money and less intellectual capital for the church.
