Wow! How many years what that a thing?

Most of the messages were regurgitated each month from conference talks from the 80s. They probably got tired of printing the same messages. I haven’t read one in years. Certainly, it will be replaced by something on the front page. Maybe just pictures of the FP.

I wonder if this is a sign of reduced sales of in-print church magazines, and this is the beginning of shutting it down and going completely online?

I agree that this is the most likely reason. It seems like they had to pay someone to dig up old material for republication every month. I doubt they would ever go to 100% electronic media given that some of their target demographic are elderly or third world without computer access, but that is shrinking everyday.wtfluff wrote:I wonder if this is a sign of reduced sales of in-print church magazines, and this is the beginning of shutting it down and going completely online?

I heard that big changes were coming, but maybe they should slow down a little. Whew!

Re: No more 1st presidency messages in ensign
Suppose they had simply stopped the First Presidency message and just went to whatever new thing they were going to do but didn't tell anyone about the change. Suppose they simply changed and went on as before. Would any of us really notice? I can imagine that many faithful home teachers and visiting teachers would passively notice and just adjust. But would it really make a difference?
The messages were blandly nice, but could hardly be called transcendent. I can't imagine that anyone is panicking and worried thinking, "On no! the great messages from the prophet won't be there any longer! Where will I get my messages from God?" Did these messages ever really stand out as something that we would treat as a transformative message that lasted beyond the next issue?

No, they wouldn't. I won't touch them anymore, to me those magazines are spiritual pornography, providing the semblance of spirituality and growth but providing nothing more than empty spiritual titillation designed to keep the subscriber on the hook.Corsair wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 9:29 amThe messages were blandly nice, but could hardly be called transcendent. I've been addicted to spirit porn. It's not something that ever leaves you. Even now, if I don't keep myself busy, I fantasize about listening the High Counselor drone on about the time he gave a Book of Mormon to the gas station attendant. So hot.slavereeno wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 12:43 pmNo, they wouldn't. Well they are alleged to be changing home and visiting teaching. Hopefully now it will just be treat drop by instead of lesson crap from my ht. If cancel it totally but my wife likes it.
Re: No more 1st presidency messages in ensign
My wife noticed. I didn't. I actually do touch them once in a while just so I can read the titles of the featured stories. The titles alone remind me why I don't ever read that $#%$ any more.slavereeno wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 12:43 pmNo, they wouldn't.
