My DW and I talked a lot the last few weeks.
About infidelity, how it affected her, about Church and it's involvement with that.
And she sprang this pearl of wisdom.
I am IN the Church, but have never been OF The Church.
The Dutch saying has a very deep connotation, being "OF the Church" is viewed very negatively here in our society.
And I totally undestand where she comes from.
The Ward is her tribe, Christ her anchor, and the Church is the deliveryvan carrying both.
Too bad it's an Edsel and not a Mercedes...... her words, not mine.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.

I love that phrase because of the way it pokes the eye of the snobbish Mormon concept of being in the world but not of the world. I loath that concept because it is the pinnacle of Mormon us-vs-them thinking: we are good, the world is bad. And yet we seem to get caught up in a lot of worldly pursuits (e.g. Utah-based MLMs and pyramid scams).
