In Which my family has turned to mindless zombies

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

In Which my family has turned to mindless zombies

Or I just noticed it.

Can they hear themselves? "Well, WE know that...<insert phrase that makes no sense but they've heard it 6x a year since birth>"

"Good thing we have modern revelation so we don't have to decide for ourselves."

"I don't care about history, I can follow correct principles regardless of history."

The correct principles being the ones revealed by prophets, via the history which doesn't matter.

Yeah, I encountered this type of thing with a sibling as we were driving to a funeral on Friday. One dimensional perspective. I told her I am seeking to know the truth, rather than know the church is true. I'm not sure she caught the distinction. However, she was open to a discussion that might have just shut down five years ago. Even the most TBM of TBM's are feeling the undercurrent of reality. Baby steps. :)
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

the latterdaysaints reddit page has similar zombie-esque drivel.

They are doing what the feel is right and they won't wake up until they're ready to wake up

I actually post in /r/latterdaysaints on occasion. I don't try to disrupt anyone, but instead attempt to coax them back to a saner version of Mormonism. I have not been banned yet.

There will be an interesting milestone over in the exmormon subreddit soon. They number of subscribers will surpass the current number of LDS missionaries. I expect this will be widely noted during April conference after the statistical report.

People will question when they are presented with a reason to question. The moment that the rote answers don't help, or become so discordant with reality that they can't be reconciled, they'll either open up or spiral down.

I posted on that page a few times, but I just couldn't bite my tongue hard enough so I left before I was dismissed. I peruse it occasionally.

I hear you Thoughtful! I think it's us that have changed more, though once a TBM goes into "rescue" mode they say these things more often. I presume for themselves in the presence of one who got away.

It is interesting to see how people fall on the crazy spectrum with their beliefs though. Some utterly deny reality, where others try to have a more nuanced view where they hold onto reality and their beliefs. They recognize the crazy and you can have real discussions with them.

Well since I posted this, a family member has 1- agreed to read the ghost of Eternal Polygamy and 2- agreed with me that polygamy is not now and never was of God.
