Stop complaining

Post by Red Ryder »

I'm sitting in a waiting room.

There's a quick cup coffee machine.

I make a quick cup.

The mormon ladies I'm surrounded by are complaining about the smell.

Sheesh, who doesn't like French vanilla? :?

Now I'm messing with them:

MIL calls: we have family in town. Wants to know if Saturday we can come for dinner after they take the grand kids to do baptisms for dead.

Me on phone with MIL: yes, what time do they need to be at the temple?

Ha ha ha. This lady is starting at me.

You should offer to buy her a cup. Your treat!

This is an opportunity to do missionary work on the benefits of coffee! You can point out that JS drank it as way to gain the energy and vitality he needed to marry so many teenagers and wives of other men.

Sometimes I wish I were still half in just so I could mess with people. ;) Not enough to actually live that, but it could be fun.

What time should I drop them off at the temple made me giggle. I like your style.
Even if it's something disappointing, it's still better to know the truth. Because people can deal with disappointment. And once they've done that, they can feel that they have really grown. And that can be such a good feeling. -Fred Rogers

Can you imagine what a hilarious skit that Studio C could do with this setup? But it would be far too rhetorically embarrassing to actually produce. I'm largely indifferent to Studio C but my family loves them. They are funny, but I can't imagine them satirizing any real LDS doctrine or practice.

Who complains about the smell of coffee? I thought that was a universally loved smell.

Even my full-believing family loves me when they visit, because my house smells like coffee in the morning.

When I was very young, the smell of coffee would make me feel a bit ill.

Now? Not so much.

I remember a couple of years ago sitting in an Army Command and Staff meeting and looking a fellow Mormon officer in the eyes while I sipped my vanilla latte from Starbucks. My smug smile told him I didn't give a fetch.
