Jeez, with an attitude like that, he'll never make a seat in the 3 big chairs. All joking aside, that's a pretty refreshing attitude from a member of the Q12. I hope he'll keep it.
In any event, in response to the OP, if my SP does this, which I doubt highly, I'll surely make it a point to keep sitting. This hero worship is getting ridiculous, and it's got to end somewhere. It would with me. Remind me never to visit your stake!

I was speaking to my wife about Bednar supposedly insisting people stand. She said she specifically remembers GBH coming to visit us in the UK (many years ago) and when the auditorium stood, he told everyone to sit down and he was embarrassed.

Cool! That means I did the right thing when he visited our stake last year. Unless he changed his mind. Or maybe he didn't change his mind and just stopped saying anything about it.

I REALLY think you should send an email to your stake president. Use an anonymous one if you want. Ask him if congregations will stand when the stake RS president enters? Also, like Hagoth mentioned, is this really what Jesus would want us to do? Worship authority over God? In the New Testament, did Jesus teach leader worship, or did he teach that the greatest among us is a servant?

Thanks for all the replies, sometimes when you are surrounded by the crazy it is hard to tell if you are the normal one. I told my wife that I was going to sit. I will keep /you posted when it happens. It is encouraging to hear about GHB and DTC asking that we not stand.
I was living in Las Vegas when Pres. E. T. Benson spoke at a regional conference. It was staged in a casino convention hall and he got a standing ovation. He raised his cane and used it like a magic wand to seat everyone. We all sat down in unison as if from the power of his cane. He seemed delighted and he got a big laugh. I don't remember a single word he said but applause seemed somehow more human and natural than standing in silent reverence.

I suppose if you read section 107 and see how JS organized the priesthood, you will find the Stake President is over the stakes of Zion and reports directly to the FP. The Q12 is over the missions of the world and oversee those areas where there is not a stake of zion. The Q12 reports to the FP. The Q12 is a traveling high council and is equal in authority to the FP. The SP/High council of Zion is also equal to the FP and Q12. So, if people think they should stand for the FP of Q15, then they should also stand for the SP.
36 The standing high councils, at the stakes of Zion, form a quorum equal in authority in the affairs of the church, in all their decisions, to the quorum of the presidency, or to the traveling high council.
37 The high council in Zion form a quorum equal in authority in the affairs of the church, in all their decisions, to the councils of the Twelve at the stakes of Zion.
