It really is tough to pin down with some people. I tried to get familiar with a very liberal couple in my ward and see if a NOM connection could be made, but apparently I'm too controversial even for them. The sad irony is they are inactive now and I still show up like a sucker every week.slavereeno wrote:I also think I get it all wrong. People I think are out are really not. I am a poor judge of it. There is a lady in our ward, she won't pray, speak or teach. Her kids rarely go to mutual, they used to sit in the chapel during Sunday School. I think she is NOM, but I am probably all wrong, she did send two kids off on a mission.

Re: Criticism
There have been a few people I have tried to connect with, but in the end they are either more TBM than I initially thought, or they just don't pick up on my hints. It is difficult to find a balance.
I praise him for his questions and tell him about finding value in stories even if the story doesn't completely make sense. But the whole time, my wife is watching me through squinted eyes making sure I don't cross the line and tell him that none of it makes literal sense.
This is a big concern for me too. One of ours is about to be baptized. Right after family scripture study, he'll ask questions like "What if it's all made up?" or "How did Adam and Eve's kids get married? Did the boys marry their sisters?"slavereeno wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 7:56 am I worry about my kids, a lot. I don't want to inadvertently inoculate them in my attempts to help them see the truth in an indirect way.

Well, I'm better than dirt! Ah, well... most kinds of dirt; not that fancy store-bought dirt; that stuff is loaded with nutrients. I can't compete with that stuff. -Moe Sizlack

Smart kid I have one like that as well, I do my best to give nuanced answers within the boundaries. I do hope for more openness in the future.
