Annoying Zealots

Post by RubinHighlander »

I like to annoy zealots sometimes but in this case I was annoyed. I got this comment yesterday on one of my photos on Instagram and it's really been bugging me:
Let me know how I can help you with your confidence.
I was a bit dumbfounded. It was just a picture of a tree at sunset:

With a quote from a Pink Floyd song:
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on your crazy diamond.
I was so annoyed by it I immediately removed it and blocked him. Now I kind of wish I had opened up a conversation with him to ask his intentions and motivations. What was it about my post that compelled this Jesus freak to post that in my feed? I know he's a freak because I went to his account and his profile is nothing but God, Jesus, "DM me if you want prayers said for you.", "Ask me how you can join my prayer group." He looks like a 20 something, Born-again is my guess.

Maybe he read some of my other posts and thought I needed help or maybe he is just randomly trolling for followers. Either way, he needs to figure out some less presumptive approaches. Maybe it was this quote I had put in an earlier post:

“A faith which cannot survive collision with the truth is not worth many regrets.” —Arthur C Clark
His comment totally came across to me as "Hey, I've got life all figured out and I can help you because you are broken and I know the way." And isn't that the mantra of all religions that have the claim to be the one and only special chosen super kids on the planet? Well super kids, I've got two middle fingers in your faces right now!

Perhaps he was upset you were crediting Pink Floyd rather than his god?

BTW, nice picture!

People with so much zeal they feel compelled to make those comments will be difficult to set free from their matrix.

Your view of life and the cosmos is so much broader and enlightened. Just let them worry till their last spark fizzles out.

Beautiful eye for the lovely BTW.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.

I've got a SIL who is similar--blessing me, totally sure of EVERYTHING, and "zealot" to the core.

I remember hearing someone once give a profound parable:

"Never argue with a jackass. You won't convince the jackass, and its braying will hurt your ears."

Good advice.

Those who are condescending because they are SOOOOO SURE and SOOOOO RIGHT, are almost always very ignorant and unversed in factual information. I'm of the opinion that the more someone knows, the more unsure they actually can become.
