New RFM Podcast--Elder Ballard Blows Up the Church!

Post by consiglieri »

Radio Free Mormon posts a new podcast on Thanksgiving dealing with the recent Young Single Adult Face-to-Face Broadcast with Elder Ballard and Elder Oaks.

http://www.mormondiscussionpodcast.org/ ... ws-church/

It deals primarily with Elder Ballard's whopper that church leaders have never hidden anything from anybody since "the beginning of time."

It is a barn-burner.

All the Best!

That was a great discussion. I wish that the apostles would directly address challenges like these. I think they could, but it would take a level of organizational humility that does not come easily to the One True Church.

Consiglieri, you make excellent podcasts.

Idea - would it be possible to add a Powerpoint presentation to the audio, highlighting the ideas as you present them?

Bam, damn thank you man!

I think this podcast in particular points out one of the main issues with the prophetic authoritarian claim. It speaks directly to their wanting it both ways. Ideas like it being okay to lie for the Lord, to withhold all the truths from general membership, prophet(s) can never lead you astray, just trust us, we've never lied to you...thanks for calling BS on their BS!

As Bill lists out a baker's dozen lies the dear leaders have caught themselves up to, I think it would be helpful to have a manifesto, like the CES letter, that lists them out as well as many others. Would NOM be a good place to do that? We kind of started it with the Forgotten Whoppers thread.

Another Consiglieri home run. You really underscore the fact that our church leaders are very much like campaigning politicians. They warp their facts to fit the immediate need, and they are primarily interested in covering their own asses.

Don't forget the ultimate example of deceit where god himself lies to all mankind about eternal damnation through clever word play in order to scare the bejesus out of them...for their own good.

Here is a Salt Lake Tribune article titled, The gaslighting within Mormonism must stop.

http://www.sltrib.com/opinion/commentar ... must-stop/

Below is a phrase from the article which resonates much of what has been said:
The culture of mendacity and gaslighting...
The Church would do better with this culture of mendacity and gaslighting.

Great podcast Consiglieri!

Just wish you had included all of the lying done by Brigham Young, both to members of the church and to the public, in regards to Mountain Meadows massacre.

The rumor mill was churning even back then and members came to highly suspect that Brigham was lying, but what could they do? To go against Brigham at that time would have been tantamount to cutting your own throat.....literally.

Interesting Podcast.

I'm surprised you didn't go for one of the most obvious things the church hides. Finances. GBH said that church financial info is for people who pay into it, but a title payer cannot request a copy of the church audit report. Sounds like they are hiding something?

We’ll all be humbled in the end, so I try not to lash out too much, but it sure was disappointing to hear them joke about not hiding history. I used to assume that DHO would handle these choppy waters well. I saw him as super intelligent and capable.

Humility should be a characteristic of the Church of Jesus Christ. Could it be that God gives his church weaknesses that it may learn to be humble? (Ether 12) It keeps the rest of us humble.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

I can at least acknowledge some humility on the part of the LDS church. Many material claims have been minimized in the last two decades and releasing the gospel topic essays is another step in that direction. The LDS church has developed some humility since the days of McConkie's "Mormon Doctrine" and Joseph Fielding Smith's "Doctrines of Salvation".

I'm simply not sure that the compassion and humility desired is going to be universally evident in our generation. I have a hard time maintaining any kind of temple recommend for any reason other than my own hilariously self-serving reasons. Organizational humility seems to be somewhat evident in Marlin Jensen, Dieter Uchtdorf, and Tyrell Givens. I kind of liked Robert Hales, Joseph Wirthlin, and L. Tom Perry for similar compassion.
