This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

A drawing in my livingroom

Post by Meilingkie »

Here a pic of a drawing by Escher in my livingroom. DW loves drawings by Escher, but I never really understood why.
Art, and gimmick rolled into 1.
They all have subtle mindf**ks built into them.

It’s been hanging there since we got our 2nd child almost 18 years.

This morning I asked why, because I wanted them moved and put up something new.

And DW said: the mindf**ks they give to me remind me of the Church. I need no templepic to do that for me.

Never did it cross my mind that DW was a closet-apostate even before we got married......

I can see the symbolism, but I would have to say I feel like one of the guys constantly walking upstairs.

 Ha ! I never connected Escher to the mind games played by the church, but I think your DW has a point there. Nevertheless, if they've been there for 18 years, it would be nice to move them and have something new, to go with your new life. :)

That's a weird drawing. Almost creepy. Hooded weird dudes on a constant uphill journey.

I like to think of Escher's drawings as merely playful. They never suggest to me that I need to obey its rules of alternate physics so that I may someday be admitted to that Art Gallery in the Sky.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
