Radio Free Mormon Special Episode on Oaks and Ballard

Post by consiglieri »

I stayed up late last night working on a podcast dealing with the Young Single Adult promotional video featuring Elders Ballard and Oaks.

In the promotional video, they make a series of startling admissions, including the fact they receive questions they cannot answer and so avoid them, and also that they have no belief in their ability to approach the Lord to obtain revelation in order to answer the questions to which they do not know the answers.

I encourage all to receive it.

Great episode!

I watched the promotional before I listened to the podcast and thought pretty much the same. They can’t tell us how to repent? I thought that was pretty much their purpose. I guess they think they are life coaches instead of prophets, seers and revelators. The entire thing was so cringeworthy. I don’t think they have a clue as to how out of touch they come across.

I just listened to the episode. It was great. I tried to find the promotional video just now. I can't find it. I know I saw a site where questions could be submitted. That appears to have been taken down. I know there were a lot of questions from the exmo community. Was the promotional video removed, also?

The promotional video is still up. The link works for me.

I received the following intelligence this morning:

On lds.org they had a posting about the fireside and a spot for submission of questions. The site listed all the questions live.

Big mistake.

There were hundreds of the most vile and ex-Mormon posts on lds.org.

I’m talking Bednar butt-love with Oaks, etc.

Someone was having a lot of fun.

Here is a link to the discussion on exmormon reddit, which includes screen shots of a couple of the approximately 2500 questions submitted.

Sheesh thanks! I can't get that visual out of my head now.

They really don't do cool and relatable and personable very well do they. Interesting try, but it doesn't really come across well. I don't expect it will win over lots of the YA who aren't already fans.

I spent considerable time reading questions on the site. What a fascinating view into the minds of youth. Lots of sadness about being gay and having unbelieving family. You can see the trolling efforts in some comments and blatant leader worship in others.

Too bad the fireside will consist of pre chosen softballs

Watched the promo.

These two guys are really trying hard to put on their best affable side. But you get the feeling they really need to be sitting in a couple of rocking chairs on the back porch in Florida or Arizona, trading jabs, sipping on some ice tea while watching some of the younger apostles whitewash the backyard fence. Oh the good ole days........... ;)
