In tribute, Jon Huntsman Sr., founder and chairman of Huntsman Corp said, “When Bob was the presiding bishop, he was eminently well-qualified. He had such a terrific business, military and academic background."
Elder Hales passed away
Elder Hales passed away
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Hales always seemed like one of the good guys.

I don't know. He sold all the same lies and rhetoric as the rest. He just played good cop about it and was more soft sell. He perpetuated apostolic in person witness of Jesus Christ; the veracity of the first vision; personal visits to the afterlife attested to by his wife as well; the historicity of the book of Mormon; apostolic blessing and miraculous healing even though the recipient died of cancer shortly thereafter.

His qualifications are all related to running a business, nothing about his abilities as a spiritual leader.

I knew his grandkids, a good crew. He seemed like a kind person.

I struggle this this. I wonder how many really see their role as an apostle, the real deal? I think after decades you probably start viewing yourself that way.
