Leaked mission president seminar notes

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Leaked mission president seminar notes

Post by Red Ryder »

Has anyone else read through the new mormonleaks?

https://mormonleaks.io/wiki/documents/b ... -09-09.pdf

Its from 2015 but outlines a lot of the things they have been doing down to the exact wording some of the missionaries have used trying to visit us.

Some interesting things I noted.
15. Missionaries sometimes shy away from Joseph Smith.
16. They should focus on him rather than shying away from or being ashamed of him.
17. Never make the story of the Prophet Joseph Smith common place.
18. List on a white board the “fruits” of the Prophet Joseph Smith”.
30. The seer stone of Joseph Smith’s day is like our IPhone of today.
Advice to the MP's wives:
You need to be a comfort and a soulmate to your husbands, ask him how you can help him in his challenges. Be their lover, their helpmate, their romantic partner, their constant support.
Here's one they get right. On final interviews:
8. Do not counsel to marry within a given time.
And typical misogyny:
6. Sister missionaries are better used in providing training, not conducting zone conferences.
The reality of letting members leave or go inactive:
The 'one' has a thousand behind them. The sister who was baptized found that her great great grandfather was a member of the church. Because of inactivity of parents, grandparents, etc. she was not baptized until later. She counted all the descendants of her great great grandfather who were not members of the Church and there were over a thousand.
... and the solution is:
Replace pornography with family history.

Sounds pretty much like an Amway conference...

I don't find any similarity between a rock and an iphone...totally trying to invent some type of similarity that members will repeat and never internalize.

Convert baptisms are way down around the world...I wonder why...

Right. Maybe in a few more decades they'll actually start paying attention to them.
The 80% tithe payer? We need to give our all.
???
They will get to yes one no at a time:
a. Don’t ever accept no for an answer.
b. Help them build faith beyond the first no.
c. Ask three or four times in different ways.
d. Do something positively different (e.g. after the last no, ask if “we can sing you a song” or
“show you a picture of their family”) after the third or fourth no.

When an investigator says no, then ask why not? Then you will learn their needs.

Practice not taking “no” for an answer three times

There is a “yes” hiding behind all those “nos”. Don’t give up on the first or second no.
Frankly, this is kind of rapey.
In Utah 1/3rd of the population are active members, 1/3rd less active members, and 1/3rd are
nonmembers.
Interesting statistics. According to the recently released PRRI survey on religion, 51% of Utahns self-identify as Mormon. That would mean that about half of those less-active members are fully inactive to the point they don't consider themselves members at all.
Use “trailers” or “cliff hangers” to incentivize further reading.
I don't know that there are really many cliff-hangers in the BoM.
Convert baptisms have decreased all around the world as well as baptisms per missionary.
The officially released numbers certainly show that, starting in about 2013. This conference was held in 2015. I wonder how much better the church's internal numbers show that. Or if their numbers for this year show any improvement.
Replace pornography with family history.
That's kind of kinky.

Replace pornography with family history...
I've started doing this already and it really helps. I've just upload naked pictures of me and other relatives on Ancestry.com. I'm sure all the other relatives who look us up will appreciate having a variety of pictures in different clothing and non-clothing options.

I've also replaced pornography with family history, and got kicked out of the library. Apparently this is still frowned upon in public.
Challenges with missionary health issues. How to use a nurse. When to tell the missionaries to “buck
up” vs. sympathy?
How about sending missionaries to the doctor when they report medical problems and stop shaming them. It's amazing that the knee jerk reaction is to tell them to "buck up". I had that experience after getting hit by a car on my mission. Apparently a week should be enough time to get over a concussion...it wasn't.
11. Sisters come into the mission, find out it is hard, or don’t know why they are there. How do we get them
back on track?
Wow.
