President Newsroom Prophesies Regarding Hurricane Irma

Post by Not Buying It »

And the word of the Lord came to President Newsroom, and he did open his mouth and begin to prophesy in the name of the Lord, saying
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the following statement on Hurricane Irma:

As this serious hurricane has approached the Caribbean and continues in its path west and north, we have taken important steps to prepare. Members and missionaries have been given instruction on seeking shelter, gathering food and water and preparing for the days ahead. As necessary, missionaries have been or will be moved to other locations. As it has for other disasters, the Church is monitoring this situation closely and preparing to respond with relief and recovery efforts as soon as possible. During this critical time, the people of these regions are in our thoughts and prayers.
Yea, and the people of the land were exceedingly blessed to have prophets in the land, and by his faith did President Newsroom perform many mighty works in instructing missionaries to seek shelter and monitoring the situation closely.

And many, yea even very many truckloads of "thoughts and prayers" were loaded, and prepared for the relief and recovery efforts.

I like that the Church is being pro-active with Hurricane Irma.

That stands in stark contrast to yesterday when Rush Limbaugh announced that hurricanes are fake news. Bless us for the prophesying of the National Weather Service. Jet Blue is offering seats for $99 dollars out of Florida.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Well, I also like that the Church is being proactive. What is dislike is that we are told we are led by 15 prophets, seers, and revelators who are constantly receiving inspiration from the Almighty, and the best they can do is "monitor the situation" watching the Weather Channel like the rest of us. The Prophet Elijah could prophesy about weather and droughts, what's President Monson's problem?

All the Church had to do was be what it claims to be, and I would still be a believer. For me this is one of a thousand reminders that it isn't.

Bingo. I wanted to believe so badly. It will hurt for a long time.

The last prophetic statement from the actual mouth of a prophet that I remember was when President Hinkley said the US involvement in the Middle East wouldn't amount to anything.

Q: how can you tell if a prophet is speaking as a man?
A: his lips are moving.
