The Pain of Stake Conference

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Singing in the choir is a mixed blessing in my stake. Our stake holds stake conference in all three building simultaneously and televises proceedings to close circuit screens throughout all three buildings. Only people in the chapel of the actual stake center see it live and that is where the choir performs, obviously.

But that means that in a couple of choir seats you might be on camera for the entire meeting. You have to keep a poker face for two hours if you are in the wrong place. You have to self-consciously not smile, smirk, look down at your phone, and avoid any kind of distracting reaction to the speaker. Unintentionally upstaging the speaker was becoming a problem. This is uncomfortable for choir members and there was one infamous incident when one tenor obviously fell asleep right on camera during one talk (no, it was not me). Since then they have added a screen that goes up whenever the choir is not singing to avoid this problem.
