Faith in Atheism

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

How logical is it to "believe" in something that literally can not be defined?

Or: How logical is it to believe in something ("god") that literally has tens of thousands of different "definitions", thousand of which are contradictory to one another?

And I will admit to doing this - and tell you why.
This entire thread is a huge example of you constantly moving the goalposts. One huge Logical Fallacy getting tossed here, then there, then over there and back again. Classic!

I am fascinated by your attachment to the idea of God, even though you admit there are countless definitions of it. Why is this so important to you? Do you have a definition you would like to propose so we can discuss this idea more coherently? Plenty of people have already chimed in to help address these questions, but you seem to be ignoring them. If you want to worship Love, and call it God, then I won't stop you. However, I choose to not worship love just because an old book says "God is Love".

No one here is telling you that God doesn't exist. No one here is denying any spiritual experiences you may have had. You are free to profess belief in "God", whatever that is. Others are free to profess disbelief in "God" (I hope you see how difficult this discussion is without an agreed upon definition of God....unless you are sticking with God=love?). If you are aware of evidence for a God with typical attributes such as omniscience, lotsa love, old guy in the sky type God, then by all means share it with us.

Wrestling to define God after a faith transition is one of the most difficult things we can go through. I've moved the goal posts too many times in my own head but that's the beauty of this wrestle. We should reserve the right to change our minds and redefine our relationships with deity.

Some people wrestle with this more than others. It's important to respect the process and continue to ask questions even if the answers are all over the place.

This thread is awesome!

That isn't any definition of the null hypothesis as recognized by the scientific community.
Newme wrote: Thu Aug 24, 2017 12:38 pm How can you say you don't believe in creation - when you are living proof?
Just because there is obvious proof of intelligent design and creation does NOT mean that the story of Adam and Eve is historically accurate.
I'm arguing that there isn't evidence for intelligent design. All hypotheses of creation being a necessary component of formation in all branches of study have been refuted wherever a conclusion can be definitively reached. If there is a counterexample to this statement, I would happily open my mind to the possibility of creation.

If you will please read what I've written throughout this thread, you'd know how I define God, & then we could actually discuss this. I have gone to great lengths to read, think about & respond to each comment to me. Unfortunately, many of the points I made have been ignored repeatedly.

I do appreciate REdRyder's kindness. Still, I think I've already spent too much time in vain.

Wtfluff,
Same to you. ;)
