Latest Mormon Leaks

Post by Evil_Bert »

I was reading through the latest on MormonLeaks, and thought this was interesting. On page 4 of the Layton P'hood training document, there is a Q&A session.

The question is asked, "How can a bishop help counsel a couple whose husband is entering a realm of agnosticism?"
The answer: Elder Perry: "That is a real challenge and thank goodness you are a judge in Israel. This is the most insidious thing that could ever happen. Divorce never solves anything. Do anything you can to save a marriage.... Also teach in your quorums the importance of honoring women... He needs to know the full consequences of divorce, supporting his family, his responsibility as a father, and the best interest of the children. Explain the evils of divorce and how they can never be corrected in this life, and perhaps in the life to come."

Does he not know the meaning of the word agnosticism? That it automatically leads to divorce, when in most case I have heard of the believing spouse is the one pressing for divorce.

Blew my mind, but not as much as the next question.
Q. How do you help a young man or young woman who comes in a says "I think I am gay"?
A. Elder Perry: Give them association with many things, strong men that represent the ideal of relationships, a man who is vigorous and knows the power he holds.

Really this answer makes me think of the episode of the Simpsons where Homer takes Bart to the factory run by gay men.

It gets even better, well worth the read to see how the twelve think. A lot of sexism and dated views.

Here's an excerpt:

I did not add the highlights. A couple of other gems that popped out at me are:

From the answer to the question about how to deal with same-sex couples showing affection: "We have to be certain that our legislature protects the church."

From the answer to the question about temple recommends for people who support same-sex marriage: "I do not believe they are born that way. It is a temptation like any other." Has he not noticed how our church has treated gay people compared to people with other temptations, like say, the temptation to eat everything that's placed in front of you?

Elder Perry always had a kind friendly persona, but those answers make it seem like he was out of touch.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

Define inappropriate affection?

Straight couple:
Holding hands - ok
Arm around back - ok
Boredom Back rub - ok
Hand contact as sacrament tray is passed - ok
Kiss on the cheek before exit to Sunday school - ok
Hug - ok
Stealth ass grab - ok

Gay couple:
Ewww gross, they can't do that!!
Pull them into the Bishop's office
YOURE OUTTA LINE!!
Repent, repent, repent!!

From L. Tom Perry:
The church average length of service for an Elders Quorum president is 1.5 years. We cannot have that!
Elders Quorum Presidents should serve equal to the bishops: five years as a minimum so that they can form continuity and unity in the quorum
I would have slit my wrists if I had had to serve five years as an EQP. No way that will work in reality.

I would say that one is borderline at best...

As long as you successfully execute the "stealth" part of the maneuver it remains OK.
