Looks like he was part of the correlation committee and it is interesting that the article mentions:

Yeah, getting ex'd for "not apostasy" is totally not suspicious. That's terrible. Either say what he was disciplined for, or don't say anything at all. Considering that the church was paying his salary and that we've been instructed to treat his words as scripture, I'd say we're entitled to know what he was removed for.

What goes through your mind when they say it wasn't for apostasy? Adultery! I can't help but wonder if it wasn't actually for something sorta like apostasy that has a different internal name, like maybe insubordination in the form of philosophical incompatibility with The Brethren concerning correlation efforts. Considering how the church has fudged their rulings on people like Simon Southerton to make people think they were exed for immorality, I can't help but suspect that this might be a similar feat of prestidigitation.

He's spoken at a stake conference I attended before. I read his name in some articles as being on the short list for apostle when we got the three new ones a couple of years ago. Very shocking

There appears to have been a bit of pushback by Elder Hamula against institutional abuse in the past. I found this on Reddit:

"In that era, he said, members were expected to donate money for their new buildings. His stake president realized that would be asking the members for a lot of money and instead worked out a sub-contracting arrangement with the general contractor so that members' labor could be their contribution.
Elder Hamula said he asked the stake president, "When are we going to do that." He and the other members had families, jobs and Church callings already demanding their time.
Elder Hamula recalled that the stake president answered with a question: "What are you doing at 3 o'clock in the morning?"
"So for two years, much of my work as a bishop was spent getting the priesthood organized to go to the Church building sites at 3 in the morning. We would work from 3 to 6."
After about a year, he said some members of the ward council decided it would be better to pay the money.
"So I went to the stake president and said, 'Our ward has been talking. We think we can come up with the money.' The president looked at me across his table and said, 'Bishop, the Lord doesn't need your money, he needs your time."

I can't imagine how devastating this will be for him, his family and everyone who knows them. Whatever he did, couldn't it have been handled more gracefully? We have often discussed here what would happen to a GA's life if he lost his testimony. Regardless of whether Hamula boinked the babysitter or denied the Holy Prophet this is a warning shot across the bow of anyone else out there who might have the potential of drifting out of line.

Considering how this man's life is about to come unraveled, imagine how monumentally worse it would be for an apostle.

His profile has been updated that he was released on Aug 8.

I think it's smart to leave it up for now, and just update it that he has been removed. If they just delete his profile, it looks like another dump down the memory hole

"It wasn't apostasy"

That leaves the following possibilities from least likely to most likely -

5 - He murdered someone
4- Serious malfeasance in his job (stole money from church, etc)
3- Porn
2- Some type of sexual 'sin'- he came out as gay, cheated on spouse, actual sexual crime against another
1- Apostasy (dude was correlation dept leader)

I was just thinking this. Reddit Exmo is going crazy right now. I'm sure Dehlin is reaching out for an interview.

The man's life just got turned upside down. Even if the church is insignificant on a global scale, millions of people right now are wondering "what did he do?" How about we give him some space and time to recover from what must have been a very difficult experience.

Mr Hamula, if you just need a shoulder to lean on, I'm here for you.

I feel a bit sorry for him, but then again, he DID accept his calling to become a (mormon) celebrity. We all know how the George P. Lee thing turned out, so since it's "not apostasy" folks are going to quickly jump to other not-so-pretty conclusions. Maybe it's actually something "fun" like he's the MormonLeaks Leak-er.

Hopefully he'll do an interview with some apostate podcast and straighten everything out!

Apparently if it suits the church they may break their "long standing policy on not commenting on disciplinary actions." What bullcrap.

We all know how the George P. Lee thing turned out, so since it's "not apostasy" folks are going to quickly jump to other not-so-pretty conclusions.

To add a further twist to this story, George P. Lee was excommunicated for apostasy, but the Tribune reported that he was accused of molesting a 12-year old girl the same year, and he was later arrested for child molestation in another case.

So I'm getting the impression that the church's official reason for the excommunication should be taken with a grain of salt. In Lee's case they didn't want child molestation associated with church leadership. The current judgment might be that it's better to taint a church leader's reputation (better that one man be trodden under foot than an entire generation perish in unbelief) with sexual immorality than suggest that a GA could be at odds with the High Sheriffs, considering that obedience and conformity are currently the main thrust of institutional indoctrination.

Whatever it is, it is big and it would put the church in a very bad light if it got out that they did not ex him. Otherwise they would make it go quietly into the night.
